Ant and Dec joke they've swapped their names around in huge move after 30 years

Ant and Dec announced they made the decision to swap their names round to Dec and Ant after three decades working in the TV industry.

Sharing the news on their joint Instagram and Twitter pages, they posted: “Some big news for you guys… after 30 long years together we’ve decided a change is needed.

“And so without further ado, we can announce we’ll now be officially known as Dec & Ant. It’s only fair on the little guy x [sic].”

But it would appear to be an April Fool’s Day joke.

Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly have been known as Ant and Dec, in that order, almost since the very beginning of their career in TV.

Ant and Dec made the announcement they are changing their brand name today

Starting off as actors in BBC teen drama series Byker Grove, the pair decided to adopt their character names PJ and Duncan when their music career took off in the 90s.

Starting with Ant’s character name at the front, it makes sense why the TV stars decided to carry on the tradition when their career as presenters only became more and more successful.

Throughout the years of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, Britain’s Got Talent and Saturday Night Takeaway, Ant and Dec carried on with their brand name.

So now it’s become something of a running joke that the 45-year-old stars can never be known differently, or even seen standing the other way round, and fans always pick up on these changes.

Ant & Dec received 146 OfCom complaints for Saturday Night Takeaway

So kudos to Ant and Dec for choosing to rock the boat and play an epic prank on the UK.

Dec also shared how he feels about the jokey change, saying: “I’m over the moon, we agreed back in the Byker days that he’d take the first 30 years and I’d take the rest…

“It’s really the only reason I’ve been hanging around with him for this long.”

While Ant explained he’s decided to embrace the “step back”.

“I’ve had a good run, but it’s time to hand over the reins,” the cheeky star added.

Fans flocked to the comments on both social media sites with most taking their faux announcement in good fun.

Others were only relieved the seemingly dramatic announcement didn’t lead to the pair splitting up and going their own ways.
