Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway replaced with Vernon Kay's new game show

The final episode of the current series of Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway aired this evening.

Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly ended the seventeenth season of the ITV entertinament show in style with a host of star-studded guests including Joel Corry, David Guetta, Fluer East, Mo Ginnegan and, of course, Stephen Mulhern.

Vernon Kay’s new show Game of Talents will air during ITV’s primetime Saturday evening spot from next weekend.

In each hour-long episode contestants will pair with a celebrity and they will try to guess the hidden talent of eight mystery performers based on “appearance” and “intriguing clues”.

The show bears a resemblance to ITV’s smash hit The Masked Singer, which also sees judges attempt to decipher someone’s identity through clues, and will aim to replicate that success.

Game of Talents marks a TV comeback for Vernon, who previously presented All Star Family Fortunes from 2006 to 2015 and Splash! from 2013 to 2014.

Vernon’s most recent presenting gig has been Formula E, which aired on Channel 5 from 2017 to 2018 and now streams on YouTube.

After landing the presenting gig, Vernon gushed: “We’re lining up some amazing performers whose skills are both jaw-droppingly brilliant and at times surreal.”

“I can’t wait for viewers to play along at home and try to guess who has which hidden talent. Prepare to be shocked and amazed in equal measure,” he added.

The show’s format was first launched in Spain and has proved to be uber successful as it’s now entering its third season.

Vernon’s new project is set to be produced by Thames – a company which already makes smash hits such as Britain’s Got Talent and The Greatest Dancer.

Katie Rawcliffe, head of entertainment commissioning for ITV, said: “Vernon is the perfect host for this high-octane show which combines the massive scale of a talent show with all the guessing of a gameshow. I can’t wait to see it!”

Meanwhile managing director of Thames, Amelia Brown, said: “Vernon is the ideal host to bring lots of fun to Game of Talents. Families at home will be on the edge of their seats as they play along with him.”
