Amanda Holden got imaginative when it came to gifting her old pal Piers Morgan, buying a couple’s gift for the ex-GMB star and his wife.
Piers, who turned 56 last month, took advantage of the lifting of restrictions and hosted a barbecue last Tuesday, firing up the grill.
Enjoying a relaxed evening with his family in the garden, Piers was thrilled to receive an unusual gift from one of his showbiz mates.
Amanda, who worked with Piers on Britain’s Got Talent back in the noughties, posted him a set of unusual costumes.
Taking inspiration from the late founder of Playboy, she bought Piers a Hugh Hefner satin jacket and cap.
And, for his wife Celia Walden, Amanda plumped for a bunny girl outfit, inspired by the legendary Playboy Bunnies.
In his Mail On Sunday diary, Piers said: “I’m 56 today, and due to Rule of Six being reintroduced, I was able to celebrate my second lockdown birthday with a lovely family barbecue in the garden, on the hottest March day since I was three, with all of my four children.”
All four of Piers’ children were able to spend the day with their dad, gathering around the garden for the evening.
Piers has three sons from his previous marriage – Spencer, 27, Stanley, 23, and Albert, 20, and one daughter, Elise, nine, with Celia.
The TV personality then recalled Amanda’s gift, saying: “It was a lot more fun than the very quiet affair last year at the height of the first coronavirus wave, not least because Amanda Holden sent me a Hugh Hefner smoking jacket and sailing cap with a bunny girl outfit for Celia.”
Amanda’s quirky gift comes after the BGT star backed Piers following his controversial exit from Good Morning Britain.
Piers stepped down from his role as presenter on March 9 following a backlash over his coverage of Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Several days later, Amanda issued a statement of support for Piers, comparing the broadcaster to “marmite”.
She said: “We’ve both been described as Marmite in our time.
“I don’t always share the same opinions as him. But my goodness he’s a good and loyal friend. Always there for each other.”
Amanda then shared a throwback picture from last summer, showing the pair knocking back a glass of wine in the south of France.
Both Piers and Amanda had been holidaying with their families in the same region, setting aside an afternoon to catch up over lavish outdoor lunch.
