Coronation Street spoilers tease Carla and Peter's wedding will end in tragedy

Tragedy may be in store for Coronation Street’s Carla Connor (Alison King) and Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) as they prepare for their nuptials next week.

The pair have been toughing it out through a rocky patch recently, after Carla slept with Peter’s nephew Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) and Peter relapsed back into alcoholism following a mugging.

Carla has also been getting cosy with Northern Irish hunk Lucas (Glen Wallace), but refused to leave the cobbles with him to concentrate on Peter instead.

Now Peter’s liver is failing, and he isn’t sure if he’ll be eligible for a transplant.

On Monday, Coronation Street spoilers a nervous Peter reveals he’s got an appointment at the transplant centre to assess whether or not he’s a suitable candidate for a liver transplant.

His brother Daniel (Rob Mallard) rallies the family together for a Zoom meeting to discuss his brother’s situation.

Things hot up later on Monday, as Peter, Daniel and Carla attend a meeting with the transplant coordinator, with Steve (Simon Gregson), Tracy (Kate Ford) and Adam joining via Zoom.

The meeting descends into chaos when Tracy makes a dig about Carla’s infidelity – and Daniel finally admits he suspects Carla is having an affair with Lucas.

Peter reveals on Wednesday that he’s looking to have a small wedding in a hotel with Carla – and no family, to Tracy’s disappointment. Carla later has to bite the bullet and tell Tracy to her face that she’s not invited.

But it won’t all be smooth sailing.

Noting how unwell Peter is, Daniel suggests they postpone the big day, but Peter’s having none of it.

Carla asks Roy if he’ll give her away at the wedding

Daniel reflects back on his own marriage to Sinead and how hurt he was losing her so soon after their weddings, and imparts on Peter how important it is to cherish your loved ones.

And despite his strict no-family policy, Peter orders his brother to put on a suit and attend the wedding as best man.

Meanwhile, a radiant Carla turns up at the café to ask Roy (David Neilson) if he’ll do her the honour of giving her away.

Peter’s clearly struggling as he tries to get through his vows

But tragedy might be about to strike as Peter stumbles on his way to the car.

Daniel insists they take him to the hospital instead of going through with the wedding, but Peter refuses and orders Daniel to drive them to the venue regardless, finally arriving at the hotel with his brother in tow.

Poor Peter is obviously struggling as he and Carla read out their vows, prompting his bride to urge the registrar to speed up the proceedings.

But will they manage to become man and wife after all?

Corrie airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights on ITV
