Piers Morgan has taken aim at his former Good Morning Britain colleague Alex Beresford after their on-air row over Meghan Markle which led to his Good Morning Britain departure.
The 55-year-old TV star ended his contract with the ITV show following an on-air row, and after Good Morning Britain received thousands of complaints following Piers’ insensitive comments about Meghan Markle’s bombshell Oprah interview.
During the tell-all chat, Meghan revealed she had suffered suicidal thoughts during her time as a royal due to the negative media attention that followed her.
But after tuning into the explosive interview, Piers suggested that Meghan was lying about her mental health, and suggested that the topic was fabricated.
Then, on Good Morning Britain, Piers’ colleague Alex accused him of “trashing” the royal, which didn’t sit well with the TV presenter who stormed off during the live broadcast before quitting the show that same day.
Piers has now opened up about his departure from the show after six years in a tell-all chat with Tucker Carlson on streaming service Fox Nation where he called Alex ‘the stand-in weather guy’.
Sharing his controversial opinion on Alex, Piers said: “He’s the stand-in weather guy who does the weather occasionally. He’s not a journalist. But he’s somebody that I’ve helped with his career a number of times when he’s asked me to.
“He’s somebody who occasionally takes part in our debates in the way that you might see Al Roker doing with “Today Show,” a similar kind of thing. But he’s not there very often.”
Opening up about their on-air bust-up, Piers explained that he had invited Alex to debate the topic of the Oprah Winfrey interview after his co-star sent him a private message explaining his concerns about Piers’ strong opinions on the matter.
“I had specifically asked for him to come in that morning because he had sent me a private message in which he expressed some concern about what he felt was – I wasn’t really understanding where Meghan Markle was coming from as a biracial woman,” Piers explained.
“He was himself biracial and he wanted to explain to us. I said, well come on air. Let’s have the conversation.
“But the moment he came on air, he came with a pretty premeditated attack on me on a pretty personal level, and, frankly, I just wasn’t going to have it.”
Piers confessed he regrets walking off the show on air, looking back.
