Channel 4 has found itself in the firing line today after the broadcasting giant decided to continue with their current schedule plan in the wake of Prince Philip’s death.
The Royal Family announced that the Duke of Edinburgh had died peacefully today at the age of 99.
After the news had broke ITV and the BBC were quite to trim back their usual programme in a bid to honour Prince Philip’s life and contribution to the Great British public.
This saw usual favourites such as This Morning being cut short, with BBC also putting a halt on all non-news programmes.
However, Channel 4 decided to go ahead as planned, continuing to air the likes of Come Dine With Me and Countdown as normal.
Twitter fans were absolutely furious that the network hadn’t followed in the footsteps of ITV and BBC with some branding the channel as “disgusting”.
One online user fumed: “Channel 4 is disgusting and insensitive, they have carried on with their usual programming ‘Find It, Fix It, Flog It’ instead of running segments on the death of Prince Philip like the other major broadcasters.
“It’s unbecoming of Channel 4 and a national broadcaster.”
Another agreed: “Saddened by the lack of coverage so far on Channel 4 and that you’ve pretty much ignored it.
“Hope that when the Queen dies, you won’t just continue to play Come Dine with Me repeats like you have today.”
“Prince Philip has died and yet Channel 4 is acting like nothings happening and showing a repeat of Come Dine with Me,” added a third.
While a fourth wrote: “BBC and ITV both interrupt the current programme to announce the news of Prince Philip’s passing.
“Meanwhile on Channel 4 Couples Come Dine with Me is on like nothing’s happened.”
Not all fans were against the Channel 4’s approach with some urging that the coverage would have been too much if they had all jumped on the bandwagon.
It appears ITV have both gone to extreme lengths to honour the Duke of Edinburgh throughout the duration of the day.
Soaps such as Coronation Street and Emmerdale have been postponed, along with the Chase completely being cancelled from Friday’s schedule and will be showing a two-hour long special titled Prince Philip: Fondly Remembered from 7pm.
And from 9pm, Prince Philip: A Royal Life front by correspondent Chris Ship will air.
