BBC Breakfast’s Dan Walker tells reporter to ‘stop talking’ in awkward segment

Dan Walker was so taken aback by the stunning scenery during a BBC Breakfast report today (April 14) he jokingly told the reporter to “stop talking” to enjoy it.

John Maguire was reporting from a hot air balloon above Bristol as the tourist industry begins to come out of lockdown.

The shots were truly spectacular, leaving the reporter to say: “This is just gorgeous, if it wasn’t for me rabbiting on it would be nice and peaceful as well.”

Dan and Louise were both amazed by the scenery, which captured the skyline of Bristol for miles around.

“John, how long are you there for?” Louise asked to which the reporter replied for an hour if the “bosses allow”.

But Dan decided to fire a cheeky quip, adding: “John, in the nicest possible way, if you could just stop talking for a bit so we can enjoy the view, that would be lovely.”

The presenter then burst out laughing along with Louise but what followed was an awkward silence after it appeared John had either not heard the joke or it hadn’t come through.

When the cameras returned to the studio, Louise asked: “Shall we stop talking as well?”

“Yeah, go on then,” Dan replied before the pair sat in silence for a millisecond.

He then chimed in to say “we’re not allowed” and “have to keep talking now”.

It comes as Dan revealed he would be leaving Football Focus after 12 years as his presenter.

Alex Scott is reportedly in line to replace the iconic BBC show, which would make her the first female host in its 45-year history.
