Axed EastEnders’ actor Davood Ghadami has landed a part in Holby City playing an “explosive” new surgeon.
The Essex native has already filmed his dramatic farewell scenes on Albert Square that insiders say will show his Kush Kamezi character go out “with a bang”.
Kush’s final plotline has seen the market trader get mixed up in bother with the Mitchells after he agreed to take the blame for a car heist in November 2020.
EastEnders last night showed Kush pleading guilty to the crime, but revealing in court Phil and Ben Mitchell were involved.
He then told his girlfriend Whitney they will only be able to stay together if they move away from the Mitchells and Albert Square.
Ex-Strictly Come Dancing contestant Davood – who has played Kush since 2014 – was written out after producers decided not to renew his contract in favour of a big exit.
A source said: “He’ll be missed but they’re making sure he goes out with a bang. Sometimes the cost of having a big storyline means losing big characters.”
Davood will now play Holby’s new consultant cardiothoracic surgeon Eli – described by show bosses as “talented if slightly idiosyncratic”.
They added about the character: “Excitable, passionate and exploding with energy, Eli puts work above everything.”
Davood, 38, said: “Holby City is renowned for its quality storytelling and I’m excited for the audience to meet Eli and watch the drama that unfolds on his arrival.”
His first appearance on the BBC One medical drama – on this Tuesday at 7.50pm – will air later this year.
