TV host Eamonn Holmes has said his chronic pain battle has stopped him from doing any cleaning at home – leaving wife Ruth having to do all the chores.
The This Morning presenter has been floored by backache and said his house would be filthy if he was on his own.
Eamonn, 61, said: “My fight with chronic pain, brought on by three discs out of place, has been not only a battle for me, but it’s made me less judgemental.
“I’ve always been a cleanliness snob. Don’t ask me why, but I now realise that’s the totally shameful way I was likely to judge you as a person.
“Crippling pain gives a person – this person – a chance to realise what’s really important… and that’s health.
“Not being able to bend down, reach, pick up things when I drop them, put things in the right place, and keep a sense of order has been frustrating, shameful and humbling.
“Without help, without Ruth, I wouldn’t be able to cook or clean up after myself.
“Dishes would be in the sink for days, because I just wouldn’t have the strength or motivation to keep the house as close to a ‘show house’ as I could.”
The Ulsterman said that his pain is “more than I have ever known” and his focus is on getting better instead of housework.
He added: “What now really matters to me is to get healthy again – and stay that way.
“I’ve learned there are reasons why some people can’t keep impossible standards with bodies that don’t work the way they should – cleaning is a tough job.”
Despite his chronic pain, he and wife Ruth managed to persevere with their presenting stint on This Morning during the half term holidays.
Whilst they were replaced by Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary, they are continuing to host the show while Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield take a break for the holidays.

Fans were left disappointed to discover that they were only presenting the first week of the Easter break, as Alison and Dermot hosted from Monday to Friday before Phillip returned with Rochelle Humes.
Meanwhile, Holly is taking an extended break for an unknown project, but is set to return next week.
