Line of Duty fans were delivered some really exciting twists during Sunday night’s explosive instalment on BBC One, but many were left totally confused by a Darren Hunter plot hole.
Darren Hunter is original series villain Tommy Hunter’s son, and has only ever popped up as one of the suspects in the Lawrence Christopher case.
Tommy Hunter was the leader of the Organised Crime Group when the cop drama first started back in 2012. A formidable foe, he was a prominent feature in season one, but has since gone to ground.
The crime boss’s name has resurfaced in the latest series after the dramatic reveal he was the “blood relative” of corrupt cop Jo Davidson (Kelly MacDonald).
But when the latest episode dropped in that Tommy was not just known as Jo’s uncle, he was also secretly her biological father, that would mean Darren is actually the policewoman’s half-brother.
The characters continued to refer to Darren as Jo’s cousin, prompting all manner of confusion from fans of the show.
Flocking to Twitter to share their thoughts, one puzzled fan said: “They keep calling darren her cousin but like …… he’s also her brother ….”
“Is Darren Hunter really Jo’s cousin, or given how Tommy turned out, is Darren her brother? Son? Lover?! #lineofdutyday #LineofDuty #LineofDuty6,” another posted next to a confused meme.
A third noted: “#LineOfDuty Darren Hunter is clearly her half brother too……”
“Can I just check that nobody else knows who the f**k darren is #lineofduty,” a fourth viewer demanded.
While another fan added: “#LineofDuty I think Chris is Darren Hunter and he is H!!”
As the show hurtles towards its conclusion this weekend, other glued watchers were just desperate to finally find out who the last remaining member of H is, but that big reveal is likely going to be one of the show’s final cliffhangers.
“If H isn’t Hastings, Steve or Kate it will be disappointing #LineofDuty,” one person commented.
Many were also convinced James Nesbitt’s character Marcus Thirwell isn’t really dead, as one fan theorised: “Is Marcus Thirwell even dead, we only have some grainy a**ed footage and the word of a Spanish copper we do y even know and they were lots of flies in that room.
Like what you see? Then fill your boots…
