Line of Duty’s Martin Compston has hinted that viewers could be in store for a shock as they tune in this Sunday for the grand finale.
The 36-year-old actor warned fans that this weekend could end up being the last ever episode as he has not been informed as of yet about a seventh series.
With the cast left in the dark about a possible return, it leaves a lingering thought as to what the outcome will be.
Martin, who is better known for his role of DI Steve Arnott on the programme, hinted that the show’s creator Jed Mercurio may be wanting to leave a legacy stamp after 10 years of filming.

Speaking on the podcast Shrine Of Duty, he explained: “It’s different elements this year, because we have to look it in terms of, do people want us back? You don’t want to overdo it.
“Ten years in you start to think of legacy, and if it goes down that well it might be the perfect ending.”
Adding further insight, Martin warned: “But then we might go another couple of months and… what I will say is we won’t do one just for the sake of doing it.

“We don’t know [if there will be another series]. That’s nothing new. Jed will only do it if there’s a story to be told.”
According to the on-screen star, it is out of the ordinary for Jed to take a few months to evaluate his decision with regards to whether or not the show will go on or not.
In fact, Martin detailed that former Royal Air Force officer “always” took extra time to review television analytics before getting to work on another plot.

Martin had certainly echo the thoughts of writer and producer Jed, who previously added: “We’re in a situation where its not entirely clear that there will be a seventh series.”
Ahead of Sunday’s long awaited finale, fans were treated to sneak preview in advance which appeared to indicate that years of detective work could about to be unveiled.
The script on the screen read: “Every investigation has led to this.”
Even though there is lingering doubt about a seventh series from the cast and creator, you can bet BBC will be fighting for its return given the show has broken mass records this year, with a whopping 11million tuning in last Sunday.
Line of Duty will air Sunday on BBC1 at 9pm.
