Sir Anthony Hopkins gave Piers Morgan his phone number – and then changed it before the telly star could call him.
The Oscar-winner, 83, “ghosted” Piers after initially telling him: “Come over any time.”
But the former Good Morning Britain host insists that Sir Anthony – who suffers from Asperger’s – regularly changes his number to avoid making new friends.
Piers, who holds a grudge against a publicity-shy woman for ghosting him, said: “He scribbled down his phone number and handed it to me, saying: ‘Come over any time’.
“But when I tried calling it a few months later, he’d already changed it again.
“Hopkins has brutally strict rules for friendship that may explain why he’s such a loner.”
Piers got the Silence Of The Lambs star’s number after interviewing him for an hour on his axed CNN chat show.
The telly loudmouth, 56, said Sir Anthony bizarrely admitted during their chat one of his few former pals was ex-American Idol judge Randy Jackson, 64.

Piers said Hopkins told him about his friendship with Randy fizzling out: “I think he got sick of trying to contact me because I kept changing my phone number.
“I’m very paranoid. People say, ‘Are you on the run from someone?’”
The telly host also recalled Hopkins told him: “I’ve had a few friends along the way… but they decided to offer me unsolicited criticism and I said ‘goodbye’.
“I’m really tough about that. I wouldn’t hang around with people if they want to drag me down. Go away. Do it to somebody else.”
Former hellraiser Sir Anthony despises awards ceremonies and ditched this year’s Oscars to tour his native Wales.
