The Chase fans floored as celebs beat Anne Hegerty and win £120,000 for charity

The Chase viewers were delighted on Sunday afternoon as ITV aired a throwback as a team of famous faces managed to beat quiz champion Anne Hegerty.

Dane Baptiste, Anita Rani and Mark Pougatch had one of the biggest ever wins of the celebrity series of the ITV quiz show.

They had also been joined by rugby referee Nigel Owners but he unfortunately got caught by Chaser Anne Hegerty before the final chase.

Dane brought £8,000 to the pot after turning down the higher offer from The Governess.

He told host Bradly Walsh: “As seductive as the governess is…”

The presenter responded: “What?”

Comedian Dane joked: “You’ve seen the sequins Bradley, I’m not a robot.”

Countryfile host Antia topped up the total on her turn by burning back a sound £7,000 but Mark was the star player.

The ITV sport presenter won a whooping £105,000 which boosted to prize fund to £120,000.

The Governess gave it her all but the team managed to score a few pushbacks against her which meant she could not beat them in the end.

Viewers at home were overjoyed to see the celebrities beat The Chaser and rushed to their keyboards to congratulate the team.

Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: “Well done team that’s a lot of money.”

Another added: “Congratulations to the celebrities on #TheChase.”

A third person posted: “Tremendous money for the team.”

While a fourth social media user wrote: “Yessssss!!!!!! Well done team!!! Played so well. Great for their chosen charities too.”

The group were overwhelmed with joy to secure the enormous amount for charity, hugging it out when they won £120,000.

Anne and the other Chasers – Mark Labbett, Jenny Ryan, Darragh Ellis, Shaun Wallace and Paul Sinha – have become firm favourites with ITV viewers since the show first aired in 2009.

The former I’m a Celebrity contestant recently opened up about whether she thinks The Chase will ever come to an end.

She told Express.co.uk: ” Not really. When the show first started, the idea was that it was going to run six months of the year, and then divided it would run the other six months of the year.

“Divided didn’t last that long because it was very quickly apparent that we were one of those shows that were getting the big ratings.”

The Chase airs weekdays on ITV at 5pm
