Madonna has paid tribute to Nick Kamen saying the news has broken her heart after he passed away at the age of 59.
Nick’s death came as shocking news on Tuesday, after the star had a secret battle with bone marrow cancer.
Madonna posted a picture of the pair of them alongside a sweet tribute where she said his death broke her heart.
The picture showed the pair sitting beside each other in what appeared to be a recording studio with the singer covering her face with her hand.
She lovingly penned: “It breaks my heart to know you are gone.
“You were always such a kind sweet human and you suffered too much. Hope you are happier wherever you are Nick Kamen.”
The 62-year-old singer also shared a series of photographs of Nick from his modelling days.
Her heartfelt tribute comes after social media was flooded with messages of condolences from fans and celebrities alike.
Among them was Boy George who posted a throwback shot of himself and Nick alongside a message saying: “R.I.P to the most beautiful and sweetest man Nick Kamen!”
Reflecting on the star’s sex symbol status comedian Matt Lucas tweeted: “If you didn’t have a crush on Nick Kamen in the 80s, you probably weren’t there.”
John Taylor of Duran Duran added: “So so sad to hear of the passing of Nick Kamen. One of the loveliest and gentlest men I ever met.
“He was a beloved friend to my daughter and her Mom. We shall all miss him. RIP Nick.”
Nick, whose real name was Ivor Neville Kamen was considered a protege of Madonna.
He caught her eye after starring in the famous 1985 Levis 501 commercial where he had to strip down to his boxers in a busy 1950s style launderette.
The ad propelled him to pinup status and a year later Madonna reached out to him with a song she had written with Stephen Bray called Each Time You Break My Heart.
The pair collaborated on the track, with Madonna providing the backing vocal, and saw it shoot to number five on the charts in the UK.
Madonna went on to say in a BBC interview that she had been inspired by Nick’s “charisma” and “beautiful voice.”
Nick also released a follow-up single Loving You Is Sweeter Than Ever, a cover of the Four Tops’ 1996 hit.
Nick reportedly survived so many near-deaths that his family had affectionally nicknamed him ‘Lazurus’ after he was first diagnosed with cancer four years ago.
