Ant McPartlin landed himself in hot water with Alex Jones on The One Show.
The TV star used the term “cameraman” when in fact there was a camerawoman in the studio.
And show host Alex didn’t waste any time in taking Ant to task on his faux pas.
Towards the end of the BBC show, beloved hosting duo Ant and Dec were asked by Alex what other profession in media they would like to try instead of presenting.
And Ant enthusiastically replied: “I’ve always quite fancied being a cameraman though.”
“Is it as good as it looks?” Ant asked the crew, who were off-camera.
To which one cameraman was heard saying: “Better”.
Dec then commented: “He’s [the cameraman] having the time of his life over there.
“[But for me] I’ve always wanted to be a director who tells the cameramen what to do
that’s more me.”
A laughing Ant joked: “Oh here we go. I’d be out all week when you’re [Dec] the director”.
To which grin-faced Dec cheekily replied: “You be the cameraman and I’ll boss you around.”
However, not long after Alex commented that there was in fact a camerawoman in the studio, not just cameramen.
“We have to point out that we have Hayley here on camera, a camerawoman,” she commented.
Ant quickly apologised and admitted: “Yes exactly, camera operator, my bad”.
But Ant’s slip-up divided opinion on Twitter, with some fans upset at his remarks and others believing it was a mountain out of a molehill.
“Apparently he should have said ‘camera operator'” (sic),” tweeted one fan.
But another slammed: “Disappointing that it seems only men can operate cameras!
“I know it’s an old term and easily flows but surely someone should have corrected it.
“Especially when you are trying to attract young people, you should be encouraging them all. Men, Woman, Trans…”
Dynamic duo Ant and Dec had been on the showing discussing their new project ‘Ant & Dec’s Making it in Media’, which is being run with the help of The Prince’s Trust.
Prince Charles had a cheeky dig at the pair today as they look for future stars of TV through the new initiative.
Despite getting the royal seal of approval, Prince Charles joked the pair keep following him around.
“I can think of no better duo to help drive this activity than Ant and Dec, who have enjoyed an illustrious career in the media for over 30 years,” said Prince Charles.
He then teased the TV pair as he raised his eyebrows to say: “During that time, they’ve both followed me around – they followed me around while filming a documentary for ITV.”
