Meghan's 'amazing' comment that 'you can create a life better than a princess'

Prince Harry has revealed the “amazing” comment Meghan Markle said about the reality of becoming a princess during his appearance on a new podcast.

The Duke of Sussex shared how wife Meghan’s own experience of entering the Royal Family changed her perception on what it’s like to marry a prince.

Harry opened up about his royal life on the Spotify Armchair Expert podcast with actor Dax Shephard and producer Monica Padman.

He appeared on the podcast to talk about mental health, his time serving in the armed forces, and growing up with privilege.

But he also revealed what wife Meghan, 39, said about the reality of being a princess in modern times.

As glamorous as it may seem – and many of us grow up with the stories from fairytales with singing birds and happily ever afters – it isn’t always the reality.

Dax Shephard said: “You learn all these fairytales when you’re growing up, like oh the prince gets the princess and all that, I think it’d be so bizarre for you to be told this story and that the ultimate prize would be that you would become royalty and you would be sitting there feeling like a normal person.

“Like ‘this doesn’t feel all that euphoric’, I feel that would be a real cognitive dissonance moment.”

Harry replied: “I do think that old way of thinking with the prince and the princess, with all these little girls reading these wonderful fairytales going ‘all I want to be is a princess’, and I’m thinking…”

The duke trailed off and then made a sound appearing to find it awkward.

Dax chimed in: “It’s not so rad!”

Harry, 36, went on to say: “My wife had the most amazing explanation to that which is something like ‘you don’t need to be a princess, you can create the life that would be better than any princess’.

“Something like that, that’s coming from her own lived experience. We got together and she was like ‘wow, this is very different to what my friends at the beginning said… like what?'”

The interview then moved on to discuss how the Duchess believed her life would be “fair” and “private” even while experiencing a certain level of interest from the public and the press.

Harry, who moved with Meghan and their son Archie to the US last year, also said his life was like living in The Truman Show.

Spotify announced a multiyear exclusive license agreement with one of the world’s most listened-to and shared podcasts, the award-winning Armchair Expert podcast, co-hosted by actor, filmmaker and comedian Dax Shepard and Emmy-nominated producer and personality Monica Padman.
