Oprah Winfrey made a startling confession that she didn’t used to “care” about the answer when she asked her celebrity guests questions on her chat show.
The Hollywood icon was in the middle of a debrief with fellow chat show star Ellen DeGeneres when she made the reveal.
The 67-year-old had been chosen by Ellen to discuss what it was like to end a talk show following the news that The Ellen Show will be ending after season 19.
Ellen asked what Oprah thought she would regret the most about the show ending because of her own experiences.
“I think the camaraderie, how you’ve changed people’s lives and the people on your staff,” Oprah said.
“You will still have those relationships but what I missed the most was the audience.
“And I don’t mean just audience applause but I always felt like I was a surrogate viewer and that I was there representing the audience.”
But then the star suddenly revealed there were times where she didn’t actually feel bothered about the celebrity guests she had on the show.
Admitting her true feelings on the show, Oprah continued: “So many times I would ask questions – particularly of celebrities that I didn’t care about the answer.
“But I was the stand-in, the surrogate for the audience, so I really missed the camaraderie with the audience.
“Because as you know, after each show I’d sit and I’d talk with the audience and that’s where a lot of our ideas came from.

“I missed that, I missed the being able to talk to people about what was going on in their lives en masse that way,” the former talk-show host admitted.
Suddenly recalling what she didn’t miss about her time as a host, Oprah cut in to tell Ellen about what she hated the most on her show – which ran from 1986 until 2011.
“I’ll tell you what I didn’t miss and I knew it was coming to the end,” she shared. “We were doing a makeover, and we did a lot of makeovers over the years, and I just thought there’s not another way I can ask somebody what mascara are you wearing.
“There’s not another way I can say ‘What colour is that eyeshadow?’
“There wasn’t another way I could do that and be honest, be authentic with myself. And I thought, yeah, time to start thinking about moving in another direction,” Oprah added, as Ellen couldn’t stop giggling in the background.
