Where the School of Rock stars are now – DUI, Grammy award and Nickelodeon fame

School of Rock hit the screens in 2004 and fast became a beloved family favourite with his breakout characters and comedic one-liners.

The film centres around Jack Black’s character who fakes his way into a substitute teacher role only to instead train the childcare to form a band to compete in the renowned Battle of the Bands.

It’s now been 15 years since the film came out and the young cast has all grown up, with Miranda Cosgrove turning 28 today.

Several members of the cast have continued with the acting and had success while others have formed entirely new careers.

Some of them have even found themselves in a spot of legal trouble, while others have proudly gone on to join the medical field.

Here at Daily Star we look at where the cast members of the beloved film are now.

Miranda Cosgrove – Summer ‘Tinkerbell’ Hathaway

Miranda hit the big leagues right after the film ended, getting cast as Megan on Drake and Josh from 2004 to 2007.

When that show ended she stayed on Nickelodeon, getting her own tv show iCarly, playing the titular role and becoming one of the highest-paid child actors on television.

Since then she has also lent her voice to Despicable Me in 2010 and Despicable Me 2 in 2013 and in the NBC series Crowded.

Jack Black – Dewey Finn

Jack Black has continued to make an incredible career for himself after the movie.

Jack went on to star as the main role in the Kung Fu Panda series as well as Gulliver’s Travels and the Jumanji films and has been nominated twice for a Golden Globe.

Alongside his acting career Jack has maintained his love of music, as the lead singer and guitarist for the comedy rock band Tenacious D, releasing four albums and even winning the Grammy for Best Metal Performance in 2015.

Joan Cusack – Rosalie ‘Roz’ Mullins

Joan continued to find much success after the film came out.

She starred as the voice of Jessie in the all four of the Toy Story films and won an Emmy for her portrayal of Sheila Jackson in the TV show Shameless.

She’s also had a number of film roles appearing in Instant Family and Let It Snow and more recently appearing in A Series of Unfortunate Events on Netflix as Justice Strauss.

Sarah Silverman – Patty Di Marco

Sarah continued using her comedy chops and her own Comedy Central show The Sarah Silverman Program which ran for three years and Sarah Silverman: Jesus is Magic.

She went on to appear in Rent the following year as well as Funny People (2009), The Muppets (2011), A Million Ways to Die in the West (2014), and I Smile Back (2015).

She also won an Emmy for her 2013 special Sarah Silverman: We Are Miracles and starred on TV in shows such as Bob’s Burgers and Masters of Sex.

Joey Gaydos – Zack ‘Zack-Attack’ Mooneyham

Joey ended up releasing his own album after the film was released, called Joey Gaydos Jr through Red Penguin Records.

Since then he has continued performing solo and with the band Stereo Jane.

However he has also had some brushes with the law, getting a DUI in 2009 and hitting the headlines in 2019 for stealing guitars from musical stores, being charged with two counts of grand theft and one count of shoplifting.

Robert Tsai – Lawrence, a.k.a. ‘Mr. Cool’

Robert did not continue a career in the film industry after the film, instead deciding he wanted to focus on his music and make an appearance with the Instant Noodles Dance Crew on OCA Image TV back in 2012.

He went on to attend Dartmouth College, where he continued to perform as a pianist playing in concerts and musical productions.

Caitlin Hale – Marta, a.k.a. Blondie’

Caitlin went on to pursue journalism after she grew up, gaining a journalism and public relations degree in 2013 from Arizona State University.

However more recently she returned to acting wit working as a script consultant on the short film Typecast in 2018 and more recently landing the role of Sydney on the animated children’s show Max & Wrigley in 2020 and Kathy in the horror film Grimmerson Manor this year.

Brian Falduto – Billy, a.k.a. ‘Fancy Pants’

After School of Rock he has branched out into the theatre and music industries, dropping his debut EP Love One Another in 2107 and his first studio album in 2019, called Stage Two.

He also works as an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community and works as a life coach, setting up The Gay Life Coach Podcast in 2020 and a life coaching program called Love Life.

Aleisha Allen – Alicia, a.k.a. ‘Brace Face’

Aleisha carried on staring in Blue’s Clues through 2004 and returned to film playing Lindsey in Are We There Yet? and Are We Done Yet?

Since then she has made a brief appearance Young Adult in 2011 and and You’re Nobody ’til Somebody Kills You.

Now she has gone on to become a speech language pathologist and wrote on Instagram earlier this year: “I’m still alive and safe, and fulfilling my medical duties And I hope you all are starting to feel lighter and more optimistic.”

Zachary Infante – Gordon, a.k.a. ‘Roadrunner’

After the film Zachary was accepted into the prestigious Tisch School of the Arts at New York University and identifies by gender neutral pronouns.

They went on to star in a production of In the Heights in Orlando, Kiss My Aztec! in Berkeley, California, and RENT at Aruba’s National Theater.

They currently work as the Creative Producing Fellow with the Musical Theater Factory in New York City while contributing to several non-profit organizations that help children with cancer, such as the Sunshine Kids Foundation and the Valerie Fund.

Maryam Hassan – Tomika “Songbird”

Maryam continues to have a beautiful voice which you can hear on her YouTube channel under the name Trayce.

She has stayed out of the public eye a lot more than her former costars but reunited with them in 2013 for a performance to celebrate the film’s 10 year anniversary and dropped in on the Broadway production of School of Rock in 2015.

She is reportedly now a makeup artist in New York.

Jordan-Claire Green – Michelle

After the movie came out Jordan embarked on an acting career for a while, with small roles in big TV shows such as Arrested Development, Alias, and Wizards of Waverly Place.

She was even nominated for a Young Artist Award when she was 14 for her role in Come Away Home.

Nowadays she is more focused on saving lives as she is a registered nurse.

Becca Brown – Katie, a.k.a. ‘Posh Spice’

The film remains Becca’s only major acting role, who now goes by gender-neutral pronouns.

They describe themselves in their Twitter bio as a an actor, comedian and musician and continue to make music on their YouTube channel.

However after the movie came out, the actor revealed she struggled with being bullied about her role and sexualised by vile comments online.

“From the age of 14, I used drugs, alcohol, sex, food, and self-harm to numb all of this pain,” she wrote in an essay titled Confessions of an Obsolete Child Actor last year.

“I’ve survived dozens of toxic relationships and three suicide attempts.

“I’m not saying all of this is because I played bass in a movie when I was a kid but because I spent over a decade terrified that I’d peaked at 10 years old.”
