Inside GMB star Charlotte Hawkins' home life from hunky hubby to luxury home

Charlotte Hawkins has kept her life remarkably private since she debuted on Good Morning Britain as a newsreader in 2014.

The newsreader is best known for her bubbly on-screen personality lighting up our screens in the morning, as well as appearances on shows including Celebrity Juice, Celebrity Catchphrase and Saturday Night Takeaway.

But she does share glimpses into her home life with fans, including snaps of her young daughter Ella Rose and hubby Mark Herbert.

And from what we’ve seen, her gorgeous Surrey home is the perfect place to relax after a hectic morning on GMB.

We delve into Charlotte’s fabulous home life as she celebrates her 46th birthday.

Secret jockey

Charlotte keeps much of her private life to herself

Charlotte might not be moonlighting as a jockey – but her six-year-old daughter Ella Rose certainly is.

She often enjoys a ride on the huge rocking horse situated in Charlotte’s living room, as the star has shared glimpses inside her home on social media.

The white mare is set on a wooden rack, with a flowing ebony tail and stirrups on either side for maximum security.

While celebrating this year’s Grand National at home, Charlotte posed in a jaw-dropping blue and white striped dress and navy floral headpiece for her 223,000 Instagram followers.

She wrote: “It’s the Grand National from home today.

“[Mark] and I would have loved to have been at Aintree with all the @itvracing team, but it was not to be this year.”

But she was certainly set up to make the most of the event, with her young daughter joining in the fun.

Elsewhere in Charlotte’s living room, there’s also a huge TV, a comfy grey velvet couch emblazoned with bee cushions and neat wooden floors.

Charlotte has decked a wooden unit in the corner out with family snapshots, with rustic faux plants in the corner and a chic golden hare statue.

Two huge glass doors look out onto her expansive lawn, providing the room with plenty of sunshine.

Gorgeous garden

And Charlotte’s garden is certainly a sight to behold. Featuring a stunning brick archway leading into a storage area for firewood, the whole area gives a fairy kingdom vibe.

A large stone dog stands guard outside the storage area, with a vintage bird box hanging from the rafters to attract woodland critters.

She also has at least three huge vegetable patches, on which she grows everything from lettuce to broccoli.

Posting an outdoorsy snap on Instagram, the blonde beauty wrote: “Very proud of my #lockdownlettuce! Finally seeing results after getting some raised beds & planting loads of seeds a few weeks ago – not just lettuce, but rocket, cabbage, courgettes, peas, chard, broccoli.

“There’s nothing like eating home grown veg just minutes after it’s been picked!”

Ben Fogle even challenged Charlotte to an “online lockdown veg competition”, to which she eagerly replied: “Yes, great idea! My lettuce mix is definitely a winner!”

Hunky hubby

Charlotte married her husband Mark Herbert back in 2008, and the lovebirds had reportedly been together for five years prior to exchanging vows.

The ceremony took place at the beautiful Chichester Cathedral, where Charlotte’s dad was a clergyman.

She admitted on Good Morning Britain that Mark isn’t the tidiest of people, as she was left “mortified” by his habit of putting his dirty underwear “right next to the laundry basket” rather than inside it.

“I just don’t understand that!” she said. “Is it a male thing?

“One time when we were selling our house, the estate agent wanted to show someone around.

“So I called my husband and said, ‘Don’t let them in, we haven’t tidied, I think your pants are on the floor!’” she giggled.

But hubby Mark laughed it off, telling her: “I think they’ll like that lived in feeling.”

Adorable daughter

Charlotte announced live on GMB back in 2014 that she and Mark were expecting their first child.

But it was a difficult road getting there, with Charlotte admitting in an interview that they had been trying for “a few years” to get pregnant.

“It was hard. It’s something you long and pray for but it’s one of those things that you don’t necessarily know is going to happen for you,” she said.

“I was really worried it wasn’t going to happen for us and we were going to have to face the fact that we couldn’t have children naturally.”

But she discovered she was pregnant with Ella Rose just as she was sorting out the paperwork to undergo IVF treatment.

Charlotte woke her husband up at 3am just before leaving for work to tell him the good news, and then had to rush off to film GMB.

“It was an amazing surprise,” she said.

Ella Rose was born in February 2015.

This year, her doting parents threw her a cosy lockdown birthday as she turned six, with the couple and their daughter spending time together surrounded by balloons and inflatables.

But Ella Rose was desperate to “go on holiday instead” after being under Covid restrictions for so long.

“We haven’t been away for a year, and it’s always a special time that we spend together as a family that means so much,” Charlotte explained to her followers.

So they decided to bring the holiday to her, donning sunglasses and clutching pool inflatables as they grinned for the camera.

Family tragedy

Charlotte has had her fair share of tragedy.

Recently, the star broke down as she was shown a video of her dad Frank, who passed away in 2015 after a three-year battle with motor neurone disease.

The star took part in the ice feet challenge live on GMB to raise awareness of the condition, telling co-host Ben Shephard in April: “It’s all about trying to raise awareness.

“And for those families, when someone with MND does lose their voice, it’s a difficult thing,” she explained.

When she was shown a clip of her reading to her father, Charlotte got emotional as she said: “It happened with my dad and it [was] difficult to have that conversation and chat to him.”

Gesturing to the video, she explained: “There he is when he does still have his voice, it was weak at that stage. Oh, it’s going to set me off.”

Royal connections

Telly isn’t Charlotte’s only claim to fame – when she was just 10 years old, she met the late Duke of Edinburgh.

Charlotte spoke on GMB about being asked to pick a bunch of flowers and hand them to the Queen, before she posed for a photograph with the Royal Family.

She said on the morning programme: “The Duke of Edinburgh actually put his hand on my shoulder to speak to me, and I was completely awestruck that he was speaking to me.

“And the words he uttered were ‘You’re gonna need to move to the side because you’re in danger of blocking the Queen’.”

She clearly wasn’t put off by the experience, as she and her co-hosts giggled: “Because I’m quite tall for a 10-year-old and the Queen’s not that tall is she?

“He moved me out of the way so I wasn’t blocking the Queen, but I love that because it was typical him – he wasn’t afraid to say it as it was and everyone respected him for that.”
