Matthew Perry has left fans worried for his health after he appeared to slur his words during a promo trailer of the upcoming Friends reunion.
The Chandler Bing actor, 51, joined his Friends sitcom co-stars such as Jennifer Aniston for a “three question” interview with People Magazine on Wednesday (19 May).
The long-anticipated reunion episode, titled Friends: The Reunion, also known as The One Where They Get Back Together, will hit screens on May 27 on HBO Max, after it was confirmed by Jennifer herself.
The group seemed in high spirits on camera during the iconic sitcom’s reunion as the actors looked back on their years as cast-mates, and recalled funny stories from their time on set during the 90s and early noughties.
However, fans were quick to spot Matthew seeming to slur his words during the special and even nodding off at one point during the video promo.
Several fans took to the comments section of the YouTube trailer to share their concern for the beloved Chandler Bing actor – who fans know as sarcastic and energetic.
One upset commenter wrote: “This felt so good seeing but also broke my heart seeing Matthew Perry like this.”
A second fan penned: “Seeing Matthew sad is heartbreaking,” adding: “I hope he gets better soon, I don’t know how I’m going to enjoy the reunion when Matthew is this sad.”
And a third defended Matthew, commenting: “I know we are all sad about Matthew but let’s remember he has suffered a lot of health related issues and he has struggled with addiction.
“Let’s all be kind and polite and remember all the funny moments he gave us through his role as Chandler, thank you.”
However, a fourth fan was simply happy to see Matthew again, saying: “I am so glad Matthew made it to the reunion. It wouldn’t be the same without him.”
Matthew previously worried social media in 2019 when he appeared disheveled to them, but the Massachusetts-hailing actor reassured fans on Twitter with his trademark comedy.
Matthew, who is a four-time Primetime Emmy Awards nominee, was cast in the hit sitcom as Chandler in 1994, and has struggled with addiction since his early 20s.
The star entered rehab in 1997, and has returned to help facilities a number of times over the past twenty years.
The actor even confessed to “not remembering years” of filming during Friends due to his reliance on drugs and alcohol.
Matthew also got engaged last year in November to his girlfriend Molly Hurwitz, 29, after their romance started in 2018, announcing the happy news to People Magazine.
He also treated Friends fans to a behind-the-scenes look when he posted a photo of himself on set during filming, alongside a makeup artist.
The actor captioned the now-deleted Instagram post: “Seconds before eating a makeup brush, not to mention reuniting with my Friends.”
The reunion episode will be executive produced by the original show’s co-creators – Marta Kauffman, David Crane and Kevin S. Bright, and will feature a number of celebrity guests including James Corden and Justin Bieber.
Friends: The Reunion, also known as “The One Where They Get Back Together” is airing on HBO on the 27 May.
