Piers Morgan wasn’t withholding any thoughts when he took a brutal swipe at the UK’s Eurovision entrant James Newman, branding his song, singing and performance as “crap”.
The 56-year-old seemed annoyed that Briton’s were holding Brexit responsible for receiving ‘nul points’ in the 2021 singing contest.
Using his platform to air his views, the former Good Morning Britain host said: “The UK didn’t get ‘nul points’ in the Eurovision Song Contest because of some sinister revenge for Brexit.
“We got ‘nul points’ because we had a crap song, performed by a crap singer who gave a crap performance. End.”
The TV star certainly put the cat among the pigeons and was met with a flurry of “disagreeing” followers.
One person hit back: “The song wasn’t crap, it was just an OK song. It was the first time I’d heard it; could I hum it for you now, no chance.”
Another added: “Harsh piers, I think the song was good, catchy and upbeat full of positivity and in a sense political in itself. Nil points is definitely a message from the eu regards hatred of Brexit. They don’t like to see us succeed.”
“If anyone thinks the Eurovision Song Contest has ever been anything other than a popularity contest they are very much mistaken.
“The UK won in 1997 because two days earlier the UK voted in a Labour government which was seen at the time as a huge positive by Europe,” penned a third.
While a fourth person fumed: “That’s bulls**t, it’s got everything to do with Brexit and politics..”
It’s not the first time Piers has proved to be unpopular for sharing his opinion.
The former ITV presenter previously took to the helm of GMB explaining that he hadn’t believed Meghan Markle in the bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Over the course of the two episodes, Piers seemingly dismissed the Duchess of Sussex when it came to her account about struggles with mental health and race issue claims within the Royal family.
At the time, Ofcom revealed that both episodes which aired on 8 and 9 March had received 57,121 complaints.
To put these metrics into perspective, Piers had surpassed Shilpa Shetty’s appearance on Celebrity Big Brother in 2007, who had been the record holder with 44,500 complaints.
After hearing Meghan’s personal account, The Life Stories said: “I’m sorry, I don’t believe a word she says.
“I wouldn’t believe her if she read me a weather report.”
During his final episode, Piers entered into a heated debate with weatherman Alex Beresford who accused Susanna Reid’s co-star of “trashing” Meghan which led to him storming off set.
It later became apparent that Meghan had filed a formal complaint to Ofcom, raising concerns about mental health and the impact Piers’ comments could have.
ITV asked Piers to apologise but he remained defiant that he had just offered up his “opinion” while quoting “freedom of speech”.
It was later announced on 9 March by the broadcasting giant that Piers would not be returning to his post.
