David Schwimmer admits he hated loveable monkey Marcel – and so did other stars

** WARNING: Spoilers below **

David Schwimmer has left Friends fans reeling – he actually despised Ross’ sidekick Marcel, and was thrilled when he finally ‘f****d off’.

The monkey was a huge fan favourite and viewers love their odd relationship.

Ross adopted the adorable capuchin during season one and was heartbroken when they eventually parted.

But the actor revealed he couldn’t stand the creature and was chuffed when he got the boot.

David was talking during the Friends reunion show and he told host James Corden about the part he hated most during the long-running comedy.

One audience member asked the six stars if there was anything they didn’t like whilst filming the hit show.

David replied bluntly: “Yes. The monkey.”

Stunned, Brit James quizzed him: “Not Marcel?”

Jennifer Aniston then said: “I loved the monkey!”

David responded: “That’s because you didn’t have to touch it.

“I want to say, I love animals. I’m an animal lover, but here’s my problem….

“The monkey would mess up scenes and when it didn’t do its job right, we would have to go again over and over.

“The monkey didn’t hit its mark, I’m sorry.

“That combined with the trainer giving the monkey live grubs to eat. He would eat in and I would have monkey grub hands all over my face.

“It was time to…. it was time for Marcel to f**k off!”

Courteney Cox admitted she also wasn’t a fan of the monkey, and it didn’t seem like Matthew Perry enjoyed having poor Marcel around either.

Earlier in the show we heard how David had to be begged to accept the role of Ross.

The frustrated star turned his attention to theatre after becoming fed up with the direction his career was going on.

Producers Marta Kauffman, Kevin Bright and David Crane were so determined to get their man that they sent him gifts to show how much he was wanted.
