EastEnders viewers are convinced they’ve figured out a sinister twist in store for Sonia, as her long-lost dad Terry might not be who he says he is.
As Terry was catching up with the locals in the Queen Vic, Sonia strode in and began chatting to her dad.
But he soon began coughing, and had to lean on the bar for support while Sonia ordered him a glass of water.
“That’s quite a cough you’ve got there,” Sonia pointed out.
“Oh, it was a crisp. Went down the wrong hole,” Terry insisted.
“Are you sure that’s all it is?” Sonia pressed.
“Well, there’s a story to tell, eh? The time my clever nurse daughter saved my life!” is all her dad would say on the matter.
But fans are convinced there’s something more going on – with some even suggesting Terry could be a “con artist”.
“Sonia’s ‘dad’ definitely going to be a con artist,” one wrote on social media. “Faking a cough because he knows she’s a nurse!”
While another wondered: “So is there more to Terry’s cough then?”
“Why do I have the feeling Terry might not be who he says he is?” someone else asked.
As a fourth said: “Terry is a prize bulls****er.”
But others were more concerned that Terry could be hiding a different secret altogether, and speculated that he could be more ill than he originally made out.
“OMG no is Terry poorly?” one wondered, as someone else posted: “Terry is dying isn’t he…”
“Oh no what’s wrong with Terry? He could have cancer,” a third predicted.
Others predicted the London-based soap could be about to introduce a COVID storyline, theorising that Terry might actually have caught coronavirus.
“COVID cough – quarantine the pub!” someone took to Twitter to say.
Terry recently appeared on the scene and announced that he was actually Sonia’s long-lost dad in a shocking confession.
But at the time, viewers were more distracted by a potential rude naming gaffe, as he introduced himself as Terry Cant.
Fans hinted that when ‘Terry Cant’ is said in a cockney accent it sounds similar to a very rude word – although many found it hilarious.

“Terry Cant seems an unfortunate name for a cockney!” one giggled as actor Brian Conley made his Walford debut.
Another said: “Terry who again? Rolling on the floor laughing!”
Elsewhere in Friday’s episode, Mila revealed to Iqra that she had been the victim of FGM, and told her how her mum had taken her to a “normal-looking house” on the day of the traumatic incident.
“When it was done, my mum handed me a doll – for being a good girl,” she heartbreakingly revealed.
“You could have told me. I would have understood,” Iqra assured her.
