It’s been almost three months since Piers Morgan bid farewell to Good Morning Britain, spectacularly quitting the show in the wake of a backlash over his treatment of Meghan Markle.
Now, the outspoken presenter, 56, has made a brief return to the show, as his former co-hosts Adil Ray and Ranvir Singh introduced a clip from his Piers Morgan’s Life Stories series.
Tuesday evening will see Piers interview Labour leader Keir Starmer as part of the series, addressing everything from the MP’s college days to his mother’s debilitating illness.
During a debate with guests Kevin Maguire and Andrew Pierce, the conversation turned to whether Mr Starmer showed enough personality on the job, with the new interview said to show a softer side to the politician.
Before the clip played, Adil said: “Piers does this very well. He’s had some amazing guests.”
Moments later, Mr Starmer could be seen growing tearful as he reflected on his parents’ changing relationship in the midst of his mother’s illness.
Ahead of their conversation, on May 21, Piers told fans: “Filming this today & it will be a fascinating encounter. Who IS Keir Starmer. I intend to find out…”
And, promoting the interview on Twitter, Piers shared a behind-the-scenes photo from the grilling, with the caption: “Sir Keir Starmer gives the most revealing interview of his life.”
Piers quit Good Morning Britain on March 9 after his coverage of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey was met by controversy.
The Duchess of Sussex issued a formal complaint to ITV about his reportage of the interview, in particular, finding issue with remarks he made concerning her mental health.
In the interview, Meghan revealed her mental health suffered in recent years, to the point where she contemplated suicide.
ITV released a statement confirming Piers’ exit from GMB, which read: Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain.
“ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add.”
Speaking out on his exit, Piers shared an image of his late manager, John Ferriter, hours later, saying: “He’d have told me to do exactly the same thing.”
