The One Show hosts stunned by Brian Cox's 'eternal youth' and ageless looks

Brian Cox has caused a meltdown in the BBC studios this week after rocking up to his interview on The One Show looking as young and dashing as ever.

The 53-year old scientist appeared ageless on the sofa with his fresh face and long brown hair as he spoke on The One Show during Tuesday night’s episode (1 May).

Chatting to hosts Jermaine Jenas and Angela Scanlon about his latest show, Brian Cox’s Adventures in Space and Time, the presenters couldn’t help but address his fantastic looks as well as how great his new star-gazing show is.

Presenter Angela Scanlon, who has recently stood in for regular Alex Jones on the chat show, immediately wanted to know the secret of Brian’s ever-youthful looks.

Angela started off by telling physicist Brian: “A lot of the chat [about the show] has been around how you look incredibly fresh”.

She continued, saying to him there are “suggestions the BBC are storing you in liquid nitrogen” to preserve his seemingly un-changed appearance, prompting a laugh from Brian on the sofa.

Angela then asked: “What is your secret?”

Brian was quick to see the funny side of the fan speculation, bantering back: “I’d like to say it was something to do with Einstein’s Theory of Relativity”

He continued, saying: “I don’t know really, there’s one thing that I noticed is that although as you said my hair might have got a bit shorter and a bit longer but didn’t change much my accent was incredibly Manchester 15 years ago”.

On his changing accent which he says used to be more Northern, he said: “And you don’t notice unless you see yourself”.

Brian then poked fun at his old Mancunian accent by doing an impression of how he used to talk about scientific theories, saying: “it was like… ‘Isaac Newton, this apple right? It lands on his ‘ead” which made Alex laugh and Jermaine grin.

As Brian laughed on the sofa with his hosts, Alex jokingly wondered if the BBC had an effect on his accent.

She asked Brian: “Was that a concerted effort or did you just get a bit BBC over the years” which left her co-star Jermaine chuckling on the couch studio beside her and Brian beaming, replying: “I have no idea what it is but it just struck me when I watched the clips back and I hadn’t seen them for a decade”.

The official BBC One Show Twitter account even joined in on the topic of Brian’s looks, tweeting: “We try to get Brian to spill the secret to his eternal youth!”.

During his new series which premiered on Sunday (31 May), Brian looks back at his decade of science documentaries and reacts to some of the most sensational sequences to try and answer big questions like whether humans can live in space or whether aliens exist.

The One Show airs every weekday at 7pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
