Inside Alexandra Cane's body transformation after releasing fitness plan

Alexandra Cane propelled herself into the public eye back in 2018, when she appeared on Love Island as a late bombshell arrival in week five.

Fast forward three years and Alexandra is turning 30, bidding farewell to her 20s and all the success the decade brought her.

Since leaving the Love Island villa, the reality star launched her own workout plan, Alexandra’s Happy Body, helping to coach her fans through a fitness journey like her own.

On top of that, the trained makeup artist has established herself as a leading influencer, launching her own activewear line and working alongside brands.

At the same time, Alexandra has been open about her once “obsessive” relationship with exercise and nutrition, determined to strike a healthy balance.

In honour of Alexandra’s milestone birthday, Daily Star has taken a look at her fitness transformation, and the graft she put in to build up her own ‘Happy Body’ business.

Alexandra was a favourite with viewers in season four of Love Island and managed to make it to the finale with her then-match, Dr Alex George, though the pair lost out to series champions Dani Dyer and Jack Fincham.

The following summer, Alexandra criticised the 2019 Love Island line-up, accusing it of a lack of body diversity.

After the promotional picture of the contestants was released, Alexandra joined fellow ex-Islander Malin Andersson in suggesting there wasn’t enough representation.

“Where the curvy girls at?” Alexandra asked.

Later that year, the reality star started embarking on training sessions with ‘Transformation Guru’ Aaron Phillips, working to better her mental health through exercise.

Alexandra later admitted her relationship with alcohol and food wasn’t healthy before she started training, telling fans: “I had the worst anxiety, falling asleep thinking about death every night, zero purpose, zero motivation, in denial about my relationship with alcohol, food & most importantly, myself.

“My life has been turned absolutely upside down – and for the better.”

Long before Alexandra appeared on Love Island, she was a semi-professional ballroom dancer, but a devastating knee injury meant she was forced to give up competing.

The injury affected her mental health, with Alexandra writing in her column for OK! Magazine: “I got really quite depressed about it and let my fitness slide. I’d always wanted to get back into shape but could never stick at anything. I think we all know what to do with diet and exercise but it’s getting the motivation that’s tough.

“But then last year I met my amazing trainer Aaron who specialises in helping women transform their bodies and their lives.

“What he does is keep you motivated, which has been the key for me. So over the course of three months, I’ve lost two stone but more importantly, I feel amazing!”

Reflecting on her time on Love Island, Alexandra said she wanted to improve her fitness levels, recalling having “brain fog” during her stint on the ITV2 dating series.

She told The Sun: “I never did this to lose weight or look a certain way. I’ve always believed that you should strive for self-acceptance, whatever weight you are.

“In Love Island, I thought I was healthy, but I look back now and think I couldn’t even walk up a hill without getting out of breath. Now I’m so full of energy and I don’t have brain fog. I’m hydrated and full of life.

“When I compare myself from then and now, the way I feel inside is like a whole new woman.”

In January 2020, Alexandra announced she was launching a new app titled Alexandra’s Happy Body, created in line with a dedicated fitness Instagram account.

Her trainer Aaron helped her to devise 10-minute workout sessions for clients, a mixture of high-intensity exercises and muscle toning resistance moves.

Alexandra also launched a meal guide, created in collaboration with nutritionist Amanda Ursell, inspired by her own keto-based diet.

At the end of 2020, Alexandra launched her own activewear brand, The Mila Tribe, with a range of leggings and sports bras in sizes XS-XXL.

Discussing the new venture with MailOnline, she said: “It is so exciting – it’s been a secret for months because I’ve been working through lockdown to get this off the ground.

‘It all started from the success of my fitness plan Happy Body that I launched back in January and I had so many people sign up to the plan because of coronavirus. No one expected that to happen.

“So many people were turning to home workouts to get through these uncertain times. I felt really privileged and in a lucky position. I started doing live workouts from home and I ended up getting 1000s of people joining the workouts and that kept me motivated and strong – it got me out of bed everyday.”

While business was booming, Alexandra later admitted she was fighting demons of her own, having grown concerned about her attitude to her diet and exercise.

In January, Alexandra shared a candid post with her fans, admitting her relationship with food and exercise had bordered on obsessive at one point.

The former Islander explained she had decided to allow herself to gain weight healthily, being kinder to herself and refusing to restrict food and over-exercise.

“When I was controlling food/exercise (an unhealthy coping mechanism to deal with grief) it massively increased my stress levels,” Alexandra said on her Instagram stories.

“Stress has a huge flipping effect on the body. I was fully living in a trance and not getting any enjoyment at all from food or even life come to think of it.

Last month, Alexandra admitted she was finally starting to “recognise her worth”

“I’ve been trying to show myself love since in so many forms – rather than restricting food and over-exercising to numb the pain.

“Since my mindset has shifted, I’m now getting pleasure out of the things I eat, my hunger cues are regulating, I’m eating what I want and not feeling guilty about it.

“I’m also loving my body way more because my inflammation, bloating and water retention has settled that I actually feel so beautiful from the inside out.”

Alexandra then added: “You live and you learn. There’s so much more to life than having f***ing obliques.”

With her 30th birthday on her mind, Alexandra shared an empowering message with her fans back in May, having struck a happy balance in her life.

Sharing a snapshot of herself on a night out, she mused: “The face of a woman who is finally starting to recognise her worth.

“Only taken 29 years… but better late than never. WHEW I’m excited for this next chapter… Never ever underestimate the power of a female with both brains & beauty.

“Yes I am calling myself smart & beautiful. Because I am BOTH. No arrogance, no unhealthy ego, just straight confidence & belief.”
