Good Morning Britain has found itself in a fresh Ofcom row over a poll they hosted about ditching unvaccinated friends if they reject Covid-19 vaccine amid the ongoing global pandemic.
Ofcom have confirmed that they have received 2077 complaints about the segment in the past week.
The debate aired on June 1 with Susanna Reid and Adil Ray hosting the show.
They asked if it was time to boycott friends who refuse the vaccine.
The lively debate was between Nick Hewer and Dominique Samuels.
Explaining his point of view Nick said: “Everyone is being rather dramatic about friendships being ruined. We’re all sensible people, all we need to do is have a care for the general good.
“During the war, everybody got together to confront a common enemy. There is a big common enemy out there today.
“Dominique’s mutterings about the tiny incidents of the Indian variant, we are poised, they say, on the very edge of a third wave.”
He added: “Why aren’t we all sensible, take precautions and persuade each other to have the [vaccine].
“There are other people, who might be concerned about blood clots and the rest of that, we understand that so let’s just persuade everyone to look at the facts, not run away with all this sort of entitlement, ‘I’ve got my rights, I don’t have to have the vaccination, you’re not telling me.”
Stressing that taking the vaccine is about thinking about others not just yourself, The Apprentice businessman said: “We have lost 127,000 to this dreadful thing.
“We need to reduce that back to zero. Think about others!”
However, on the flipside, Dominique argued that such a position is simply “middle class snobbery”.
“I think that most people will be worried about clawing their businesses and mental health back from the depths of hell not whether they’re going to segregate someone else from a dinner party,” she hit back.
“And look, there are various reasons why one might not get the vaccine but nonetheless you are protected from serious illness or death.
“Does the vaccine work or not? Does the immune system work or not?
“This is reflective of a worrying trend that we’re seeing in our society where people feel they have a right to dictate over other people’s personal choices.”
