Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher has slammed Little Mix for their Brit awards Best British Group win, where they became the first all-girl group to win the award.
Noel had previously won the award in 1996 with his band Oasis, along with being nominated in 1995, 1998 and 2003.
Speaking in The Sun he said: “Little Mix, with the greatest respect, are not in the same league as Oasis. Not even in the same f*****g sport.”
He then went on to discuss what he considers to be a symptom of doing business within the music industry.
He continued: “It’s a symptom of the music business chasing the numbers — and there not being any bands or songwriters in those bands.
“Record company guys constantly say, ‘Oh, these guys are the real deal’. And I think, ‘You wouldn’t know the real deal if it f***ing bit you on the a***, mate’.
Noel’s thoughts on their victory comes off the back of the Little Mix win and award speech where Leigh-Anne spoke about open sexism and misogyny within the industry, having faced it their whole career.
She said: “It’s not easy being a female in the UK pop industry. We’ve seen the white male dominance, misogyny, sexism, and lack of diversity. We’re proud of how we’ve stuck together, stood our ground, surrounded ourselves with strong women, and are now using our voices more than ever.”
They concluded the speech by dedicating their victory to every female group that came before them who they think should have won years prior.
The final words were: “The fact that a girl band has never won this award really does speak volumes. So this award isn’t just for us, it’s for Spice Girls, Sugababes, All Saints, Girls Aloud, all of the incredible, incredible female bands … this one’s for you.”
Noel has also discussed his distaste for “preachy” modern bands that appreciate their fans openly on stage, considering it a needless reminder to fans as to why they’ve come.
Noel said: “We were kind of like, ‘We don’t have to remind people why they’re here. They’re f***ing here to see us.
“But we live in a world now where you have to tell people how amazing they are because they get upset and I’m not that person now.”
