Ashley Banjo not surprised by Harry and Meghan interview after 'long chat'

Diversity frontman Ashley Banjo has admitted he wasn’t shocked at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s explosive Oprah interview.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex opened up to chat show host Oprah Winfrey back in March following their stepping back from the Royal Family.

Among their admissions were that their son Archie had been denied a title due to his skin colour, and that Meghan had felt suicidal during her time in the United Kingdom.

But Britain’s Got Talent winner Ashley Banjo admits he was “less shocked” by their confessions, as he had previously chatted to Harry.

Along with being frontman of street dance troupe Diversity, Ashley is also one of the brains behind Diversity’s Black Lives Matter dance routine, which garnered almost 30,000 Ofcom complaints, in the wake of George Floyd’s death.

Speaking on Lorraine, Ashley said the Duchy of Sussex are “just normal people, living a slightly different life to us”, explaining: “You look at their actions to look after one another and protect their little family and I understand it 100 percent.

“There were a lot of things people were shocked at in their interview with Oprah,” he added.

“I think I was less shocked because of our conversation, we had a really long chat and it was really eye-opening for me.”

He further told Lorraine: “I’m genuinely inspired by both of them, the way they’ve handled themselves.”

Harry and Meghan had come out in support of Diversity’s controversial dance routine on Britain’s Got Talent, which was later awarded a TV BAFTA in Virgin Media’s Must-See Moment of 2020 category.

Ashley has also revealed that he’s in talks about a future work project with Harry and Meghan, admitting: “There’s been a couple of conversations. I think the paths might cross at some point, I’m not sure how.

The star has hinted there could be an upcoming project involving Harry and Meghan

“But yeah. I’m hoping that our paths cross. That’s all I’m going to say. Keep it under wraps as they say,” he added on a candid clip to his Instagram story.

“We’ve got loads of common ground, things that we both relate on.”

Ashley seems to have become closer to the royal couple, as he elaborated: “At the time the conversation was really needed. It was just one of many conversations I had that was like, got me through that sort of like really deep, like dark period.

“You feel like when you’re on socials that like so many people at you.

“So every single message of positivity with people supporting made the difference between me thinking that the whole country was against Diversity to thinking that there was a majority of support.

“That was basically down to the phone calls and the messages and the comments from the people that were there. So I’m forever grateful for them.”

He even joked that Harry might be up for some one-to-one dancing lessons in the future.

“I’ve heard that Harry can bust a move, so maybe. You just know he’s a party boy. You know he can get down.”
