Liam Payne to make short film documenting Alcoholics Anonymous experience

Liam Payne might be ditching the microphone for a while, as it appears he might soon be picking up a camera instead.

The One Direction star has put pen to paper to craft a script for a short comedy film, based on his experience of attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings with comedian Russell Brand.

The Strip That Down singer admitted he “had a thing with drink”, and was subsequently sober for around a year, in which he attended meetings with Russell.

And now he has written a script based on his experiences there, with a character based on himself.

Speaking on the Diary of a CEO podcast, Liam said: “There was everyone from prison guards to ex-soldiers to postmen to bin men, me and Russell.

“It was the weirdest room. We’re in some old community church room and he’s taking the chair and doing stand-up,” he explained.

But he’s keeping shtum on the contents of the film for now, as he added: “I am not going to give the script… and I’ve not spoken to Russ about it yet. But I am one of the characters.”

Liam added: “I’m excited about the film. I showed it to one of my friends and she laughed a lot.”

He has spoken candidly about his struggles with alcohol in the past

Speaking in the past about his decision to quit drink for a while, Liam reflected: “I was at a point where I was too young to stop drinking and it turned my social life upside down. It was very lonely.”

Alcohol, for Liam, had been a tool to “mask his feelings”, to “cover up heartbreak, nerves, all sorts of things.”

But he added: “It was about pressing that reset button and realising you could cope without it.”

Earlier this month, Liam shared a story on his Instagram page, detailing how he was handed a £30,000 bill after making cocktails for friends.

While on a night out in Brazil, Liam learned to make cocktails for his crew, and during a DJ set at the end of the night, was handed the bill.

“I was like, ‘I’m not paying for drinks that I was making for other people’,” he explained. “Didn’t get any tips from the team.”

So he put the bill on someone else’s room, and went on to jump in the pool – forgetting he had “expensive shoes” on.

During the candid clip, Liam also explained how he and bandmate Louis Tomlinson were forever getting into scrapes.

“We once broke into one of the stadiums in America and got chased by a woman on a cop machine, a mall cop type thing. That was crazy.

“He also left me on my own while I was being arrested nearly by a French policeman who I had to push over, which still scares me.”

The incident reportedly occurred as Liam was “innocently” attempting to return to his hotel.
