Mark Labbett wasn’t called The Beast on The Chase for nothing, previously tipping the scales at a shocking 29 stone back in 2003.
He has since revealed he lost almost 10 stone during the recent lockdown, and has been proudly showing off his results on social media.
Mark, 55, remembers the exact moment where he started to think about his body.
He also believed he had diabetes, but was not yet diagnosed.
The Chase star appeared on the show Sugar Free Farm in 2016. It saw several celebrities take on a sugar-free diet in 2016.
Jane McDonald and Alison Hammond were also on the programme with Mark.
“With hindsight, when I did Sugar Free Farm, I reckon I was possibly diabetic then,” Mark told the Express.
“And although they did a whole battery of tests on me the one thing they never did was test us for diabetes. I’m certain I was either diabetic then or pre-diabetic.”
He continued: “I noticed for series two they did do the testing and I think it was Alison Hammond and they said, ‘Hey you’re not far away from being a diabetic.’
“The good news is, if they catch it early enough, it’s definitely reversible.”
He was later diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2017.
“I’ve still got a way to go. It turned out a couple of years ago I wasn’t far away from being nondiabetic,” he said.
“I got pretty close to it. Unfortunately, I let myself go a bit because I didn’t know at the time.”
The Chase star has teamed up with FitBit and Diabetes UK for the One Million Step Challenge.
Their aim is to get Brits healthier, and Mark says the campaign was big part of his weight loss.
“I had been getting fit anyway because of being in lockdown, because my wife works as a nurse and I was the primary carer for our son. And I soon found that looking after an active three-year-old is tough,” he explained.

He continued: “The weight just fell off me just chasing after him.
“Now that we’ve got through lockdown I want to continue the good work as it were and not let the weight pile on.
“So, when they came through with an offer and FitBit mentioned the 10,000 steps challenge I wanted to take part.”
Is Mark due for a change of nickname on The Chase?
