Love Island start date officially confirmed by ITV in This Morning segment

After the unexpected changes to the original schedule, ITV have now confirmed that the new series of the highly anticipated dating show Love Island will return to screens on Monday, 28 June on ITV2.

ITV have kept information on the new series tightly sealed and has tried to keep the start date confidential however, it has now been confirmed on ITV’s This Morning exactly when the series will take place.

It will air at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub.

Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby delivered the news during a dedicated segment on Wednesday’s programme, as they also revealed that there would be brand new Love island water bottles designed for the new series.

According to reports, filming will take place in Majorca and the production team will fly out to the venue on June 20.

Talking to the MailOnline a source said: “Crew members are scheduled to fly to Majorca on 20th June – with the series expected to launch a week later.

“In 2019, the first episode aired on 3rd June, meaning Love Island will be over three weeks later this year due to current restrictions on overseas travel.”

Love Island is typically shown over a course of eight weeks.

The programme airs during the weekdays at 9pm and it also has an additional helping called Love Island: Aftersun that is shown on Sunday evenings.

The popular reality show has been hit by several disruptions over the last year or so due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Last year summer, the programme didn’t air as TV execs couldn’t afford the risk of contestants getting too close to each other during the height of the pandemic.

And although Spain and the Balearics are currently on the UK government’s amber list, it’s been confirmed that The Villa and Casa Amor will still host the new singles once again.

If things do happen to change in the next coming days, an alternative location in the UK has been discussed.

Speaking to Chronicle Live, a source said: “The Channel Islands get plenty of sunshine so it makes sense to hold Love Island there if we can’t get back to Spain.

“Either way we’re going to put out a belting series. Viewers have missed Love Island for the whole of 2020 and they’re desperate to have it back. They’re going to love what we do, wherever we do it.”
