Good Morning Britain presenter Richard Madeley has claimed Prince Harry has “lost the plot” for his airing his grievances about life in the Royal family in recent interviews.
In one candid chat with Dax Shepard, on the Armchair Expert podcast, Harry said being in the Royal family was like being in a zoo or on 90s film The Truman Show, which tells the story of a man who is unaware that his life is a TV show.
He also claimed to US talk show host Oprah Winfrey that his mental health has been impacted by being part of the Royal Family.
The Duke’s mother Princess Diana died in a car crash in Paris when he was 12 years old – and her death was blamed on paparazzi who were chasing the car.
Harry has claimed he was reluctant to participate in his royal duties in his 20s because of “what it did to his mum”.
Richard said he was saddened to see the change in the Duke’s behaviour since he moved to America with wife Meghan Markle and their two young children, Archie and their newborn daughter Lilibet.
He told Express.co.uk: “I think Harry’s lost the plot I’m sad to say because I think, fundamentally, Harry is a decent man.
“I think he’s a decent guy, who, like many people, has had bad, difficult experiences in his life.
“I mean, very few of us lead a charmed existence, so I don’t think that makes him particularly special.
“People do lose their parents, you know, I lost my father when I was 21.”
“It’s not the same as losing your mother at [a young age].
“But we all have our crosses to bear.”
Richard also urged Harry to “think harder” before hitting out at his family.
He said: “I do think that he does need to step back and just think a little bit harder before he opens his mouth.
“I just think he’s shooting from the hip a bit too much at the moment.”
Harry said he wants to “parent” his and wife Meghan’s son Archie in a different way to how he was raised in the Royal Family by his dad Prince Charles.
Harry said: “Yeah… Isn’t life about breaking the cycle? There’s no blame.
“But certainly when it comes to parenting, if I have experienced some kind of pain or suffering because of the pain or suffering that perhaps my father, or my parents had suffered, I’m going to make sure I break that cycle so I don’t pass it on.
“As parents we should be doing the most we can to say, you know what, that happened to me, I’m going to make sure it won’t happen to you.”
“I have moved my whole family to the US.
“That wasn’t the plan! But sometimes you have to make decisions and put mental health first.”
