Controversial broadcaster Piers Morgan has lashed out at ITV’s duty of care protocols following his epic exit from Good Morning Britain in March.
The Life Stories host responded to the announcement of protocols put in place to protect the mental health of this year’s Love Island contestants, after an official air date of June 28th was announced on Wednesday.
Amongst the protocols are an extensive aftercare system, which includes “bespoke training on dealing with social media and advice on finance”, a “minimum of eight therapy sessions” to be offered to Islanders, “proactive contact” with contestants for 14 after the end of the series, and help with securing a manager.
ITV says it has “developed a new Duty of Care framework” to help contestants through the process.
But Piers has lashed out over the procedures put in place, branding contestants “dimwits”.

Taking to Twitter, the 56-year-old wrote: “My advice would be much simpler to any prospective Love Island contestants: if you can’t stand the heat, don’t go into the kitchen.
“Nobody’s forcing these people to go on TV and cavort around in no clothes having sex with like-minded dimwits.”
But many fans appeared to disagree with Piers’ views on the reality show, with one replying: “The problem is, nobody knows what the heat is like until they go into the kitchen themselves.

“Those that apply will never know what editing will be done on them or how the media will spin things. Naive maybe, but money/fame/experience will always entice.”
Another added: “How do they know if they can stand the heat before they go in the kitchen? This is totally new to most of them.”
And a third echoed: “2 previous participants have taken their own [lives]. As other participants explained, whilst they knew there would be scrutiny and negative attention, they simply couldn’t have imagined the levels of harassment and abuse directed at them.
“Why shouldn’t the show have a duty of care?”

Another incensed fan simply responded to the tweet with a GIF of Piers performing his epic GMB storm off after an on-air row with meteorologist Alex Beresford, penning: “If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the studio.
“Oh, you did.”
It comes as Piers appeared to tease his TV return during an interview with Fox News’ anchor Sean Hannity.

He said during the segment: “Well, I’m definitely having some very interesting conversations Sean, as you can probably imagine.
“There are lots of people that wouldn’t mind a piece of the action with somebody who trebled the ratings on that morning show in five years, which is what we did.”
He has even implied that ITV want him back on board, and smugly tweeted in response to plummeting GMB ratings: “Jeez. Should I set my alarm for 4.45am again?”
