Piers Morgan hits out at ‘bored’ England team at Euro 2020 after 0-0 draw

The delayed Euros have kept much of the country hooked since it began last week.

And although England got off to a good start last weekend, with a 1-0 win over Croatia last Sunday, they couldn’t keep up the winning streak in Friday night’s fixture.

Playing again from Wembley Stadium, England faced Scotland in a frustrating fixture which saw neither come out on top.

One person who was soon hitting out at the national team was former Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan, 56.

Piers, who was watching live at the stadium, gave his observations throughout the game on social media site Twitter.

The ITV star had shared a snap of himself ahead of kick-off, captioned: “Battle of Britain!”

However, it didn’t take long for Piers to give his criticism of the national team as they failed to make a big impact.

In view of his 7.9million Twitter followers, the controversial television host declared: “England look bored, and boring. Bring on Grealish. #ENGSCO.”

Not long after sending the tweet, Gareth Southgate did indeed opt to bring on Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish.

And of course, it didn’t take long for Piers to react to the change, writing: “8 minutes later… Southgate acts on my tweet.”

But unfortunately he failed to make enough of an impact as the fixture ended goalless on both sides.

Of the result, Piers shared: “Bottom line: Scotland wanted it more than England and played with more fire, intensity, passion and drive.

“You can’t teach footballers those qualities. It’s about hunger and heart.”

It came after he had also told his followers: “Scotland are outplaying us. Fact. #ENGSCO.”

During the match, Piers even had time to compliment Scotland in a reply to Line of Duty star Martin Compston.

The Scot has well documented his love of the game on social media, with a clip of him on-set of Line of Duty losing it when Scotland qualified.

Martin tweeted: “Heart’s in my mouth at times but the way McTominay and Gilmour are taking the ball in tight areas and playing out from the back under pressure is immense to see.”

Piers told the actor: “Both playing superbly.”
