Guy Ritchie's Camden pub ravaged by fire as 10 fire engines attend scene

Fire has ravaged Guy Ritchie’s Camden pub on Wednesday, requiring 10 fire engines to attend the scene.

The blaze began around 12.15pm on Wednesday lunchtime at the Lore of the Land pub in Conway Street, Fitzrovia.

10 fire engines and around 70 firefighters were on hand to assist in putting out the fire, from Islington, Euston and Kentish Town, after the fire began in the extraction system from the first floor to the roof vent.

London Fire Brigade station commander Jason Fisby said: “Access to the seat of the fire is challenging and very labour intensive.

“The number of fire engines at the scene is a reflection of the need for a high turn over of firefighters wearing breathing apparatus.

“Firefighters are carrying out salvage work and trying to prevent water damage on the floors below.”

“The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.”

There are no reported injuries so far, though it is understood the venue is temporarily closed, with a road closure in place.

It is not clear whether the iconic film director was at the pub when the blaze broke out.

The Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels director is no stranger to the hospitality industry, having purchased the Fitzrovia pub back in 2018.

He also has his own micro-brewery called Gritchie, on his farm in Dorset, along with setting up his company Fatboy Pub Company Ltd. in 2018.

Gritchie Brewing Company even made an appearance at the Lore of the Land, as its drinks were served downstairs, along with bar snacks including Jerusalem artichoke pate with crispy chicken skin and a seed cracker.

Upstairs, the gastro pub serves mouth-watering venison from Guy’s country estate in Wiltshire.

Ritchie also purchased Mayfair drinking establishment The Punchbowl back in 2008, when he was still married to Madonna.

After they divorced, Ritchie kept the pub as part of the settlement, and hung out there with the likes of David and Victoria Beckham and Leonardo DiCaprio – but he ended up selling the pub in 2013.

But, according to a friend at the time, Ritchie was determined to keep the essence of The Punchbowl alive, as they commented: “They were determined that the new people wouldn’t change the DNA.”

However, the Sherlock Holmes director sparked fury when he made the decision to furlough some of its 19 pub staff last year, despite his net worth of more than £100million.
