Susanna Reid and Andi Peters defend cricket legend after he swears on GMB

Good Morning Britain host Susanna Reid explained to viewers “sometimes language is totally justified” after West Indian Cricket star Michael Holding accidentally let out an expletive during a powerful discussion about racism.

Michael, 67, had appeared on the programme to open up about his new book, Why We Kneel How We Rise.

During a passionate interview with hosts Ben Shephard and Susanna Reid, the legendary sportsman couldn’t help letting out a swear word.

Speaking out on the important subject, he explained he’d previously been followed around shops due to the colour of his skin.

He said: “Because we have people growing up subconsciously thinking that they are superior to other races.

“And we have people growing up subconsciously or not that they are inferior to other races and that is a load of b*****s as you would say.”

Ben swiftly added: “We need to apologise unfortunately we can’t use that word first thing in the morning but everyone understands the sentiment behind what you are saying.”

Michael quickly told Ben: “I apologise,” but was met with support from both Ben and Susanna in the studio, who understood his words.

Susanna explained that the use of the word was a “reflection of strength and feeling”

The Tipping Point host told him: “No no, we can see how passionately you are about it.”

Susanna said: “It’s a reflection of your strength of feeling.”

After the segment had finished, Piers Morgan’s former on-screen wife go behind the sportsman, telling viewers “sometimes language is justified”.

Andi also showered the cricket star with praise for his empowering speech

When the programme had returned from the break, competition presenter Andi Peters took centre stage informing fans that Michael had not used the “expletive in rage”.

Delivering an emotional speech Andi showered the cricket star with praise.

He began: “It is really interesting on our show, it is our show.

“The use of that one word, as a person of colour, it meant a lot to me and thank you Michael for speaking the truth.”

Andi also agreed with Michael’s comments when it came to being followed at the shops but told Susanna he’d been lucky enough that he’d been recognised as a person from the TV.
