Sky News’ Trevor Phillips put one conservative minister in his place during a Sunday interview, when he attempted to defend Matt Hancock.
Phillips buried his daughter Sushila on May 11, just five days after married Matt Hancock was filmed kissing his then-aide Gina Coladangelo.
Due to social distancing restrictions, just 30 attendees were permitted at Sushila’s funeral, though 300 watched the ceremony online.
When joined by MP Brandon Lewis, secretary of state for Northern Ireland, on the show, Phillips questioned him about the Hancock scandal.
Lewis claimed Hancock “deserved credit” for “putting the country first” in resigning from his position of Minister for Health.
Phillips was quick to call him out, replying: “I want to put a private – personal question I guess, in a way – to you.
“Over the past two days, every Cabinet minister including you has come out to essentially defend the Prime Minister and Matt Hancock.
“The pictures that we saw were of an encounter on May the 6th.
“On May 11th, my family buried my daughter who had died not of Covid but during the lockdown.”
Phillips went on to describe the funeral, highlighting the plight faced by many who have buried loved ones during the pandemic.
He went on: “Three hundred of our family and friends turned up online, but most of them were not allowed to be at the graveside, even though it was in the open air, because of the rule of 30. Because of instruction by Mr Hancock.
“Now, the next time one of you tells me what to do in my private life, explain to me why I shouldn’t just tell you where to get off?”
Mr Lewis looked visibly uncomfortable, and replied: “Look, I absolutely accept and understand the frustration and even the anger that people have, having been through the situations they’ve been through.
“I’ve lost friends, there’s funerals I’ve not been able to go to over the last period. That is such a tragic situation for any of us to be in.”
Sushila, whose father has previously addressed her battle with mental health and anorexia, died “peacefully in her own bed” aged 36 on April 22.
Her sister Holliday, 33, announced Sushila’s death in a heartbreaking statement, promising to keep her legacy alive.

She said: “She went peacefully, in her own bed, in our mum’s arms. Exactly how she would have wanted it. She was one of the wisest, kindest, strongest, and funniest people I knew.
“Eternally compassionate in the face of unspeakable suffering, grateful for the small things every day – the sun on her face and a smile from a stranger, she had the most wicked sense of humour, and she was committed to fighting for justice for people suffering with mental illness.”
