Christina Aguilera has spoken publicly on social media backing Britney Spears’ decision to go against her “abusive” conservatorship.
The singer urged the judge on Britney’s case to free her from her restrictive legal agreement forced upon her 13 years ago.
This comes after Britney shared her testimony about her life under her father Jamie’s control over nearly every aspect of her life.
Britney conducted a 24-minute statement while appearing in Los Angeles court via telephone on Wednesday to share how awful she has been treated.
Christina, 40, backed up her Mickey Mouse Club co-star and took to social media to send out a supportive message on Monday.
The singer posted a throwback snap of the two when they worked together as young kids and said: “These past few days I’ve been thinking about Britney and everything she is going through.
“It is unacceptable that any woman, or human, wanting to be in control of their own destiny might not be allowed to live life as they wish.
“To be silenced, ignored, bullied or denied support by those ‘close’ to you is the most depleting, devastating and demeaning thing imaginable.”
Both stars rose to fame alongside each other on the hit Disney show, which Justin Timberlake and Ryan Gosling appeared on too.
After going separate ways and both dominating noughties charts, the girls were often pitted against each other with Britney portrayed as the “good girl” and Christina as the “bad girl.”
Christina also went on to mention that “the harmful mental and emotional damage this can take on a human spirit is nothing to be taken lightly.”
“Every woman must have the right to her own body, her own reproductive system, her own privacy, her own space and her own happiness.”
The mum-of-two added that although she doesn’t know what goes on behind “closed doors”, she wanted to support Britney from the bottom of her heart.
The Beautiful singer added: “The conviction and desperation of this plea for freedom leads me to believe that this person I once knew has been living without compassion or decency from those in control.”
Christina also chimed in to say that she couldn’t imagine working under such pressure and horrific conditions, and that makes Britney all the more deserving of her freedom.
Christina concluded: “My heart goes out to Britney.
“She deserves all the TRUE love and support in the world.”
