Love Island fans call for ITV to add subtitles to new hunk Brad McClelland

Jake Quickenden has joined calls for Love Island bosses to add subtitles to this years show after viewers complained they couldn’t understand what people were saying.

Fans of the hit ITV2 show took to Twitter to claim they found it hard to follow what hunk Brad McClellan was saying due to his strong Geordie accent.

Many insisted they were mishearing the buff lad, admitting they thought he told the girls he was a Libra – his star sign – than that his job was a labourer.

Taking to Twitter, one viewer said: “Can we get subtitles for Brad canny deal with that like #LoveIsland.”

Another asked: “Can we get subtitles for Brad please #loveisland.”

A third added: “I genuinely thought Brad said he was a Libra, not a ‘labourer’

Subtitles please #Love Island.”

A fourth chimed in: “Nah Love Island needs subtitles because WTF is anyone saying”

Meanwhile, Dancing on Ice winner Jake Quickenden, 32, tweeted playfully: “I need subtitles on with Brad #loveisland.”

Monday night’s show was met with mixed reviews when it came to the all important battle for ratings.

The ITV dating show lost just shy of one million viewers in it’s launch night in comparison to the previous series.

According to overnight figures, Love Island pulled in 2.4 million TV viewers.

In comparison the last summer series pulled in 3.3 million.

However in a positive sign for ITV bosses that it could still bring in more viewers than past runs, there was a peak audience of 3.3 million viewers across all devices.

And with an average of 1.0 million ITV Hub viewers across the episode, Love Island enjoyed a new record in terms of online streams for the show.

In total, ITV report that the launch episode attracted 2.9 million streams in total.
