Our Yorkshire Farm Amanda Owen faces backlash as fans question supermarket lamb

Our Yorkshire Farm’s Amanda Owen has faced an unlikely amount of backlash over a post in which she discussed a Sunday lamb roast dinner.

The 46-year-old Channel 5 star shared a series of snaps on her Instagram with her 363,000 followers, in which she could be seen serving a roast dinner to her hungry brood.

The post was a sponsored ad for supermarket chain Morrisons, and while some of her followers were upset with her for “selling out”, others were more concerned with the fact she appeared to have bought supermarket lamb when she runs a farm with sheep.

She told her followers: “At Ravenseat, sitting down as a family for a meal at the end of the day is a very important part of who we are. Today we have gathered together for a delicious British leg of Lamb from Morrisons.

“Morrisons is a huge supporter of British farmers and only stocks 100% British meat. The lamb, which is a whole leg from their Market Street Butchers Counter, was seasoned with garlic and rosemary, served with creamy dauphinoise potatoes, roasted parsnips, peas, carrots and a luscious red wine gravy.

“As you can see it went down a treat!”

Before long, the comment section was filled with confused followers, with some disappointed in the mum-of-nine.

One said: “We buy your lamb or if not available the local lamb from McIntyre Butchers delivered to us in Sussex. I wonder why you feel the need to buy from Morrisons?”

Another wrote: “2000 sheep on your farm and you buy lamb from Morrisons? Come on Amanda we all love you and your family, don’t spoil things.”

A third asked: “Does it taste as good as your home grown lamb?”

Someone else said: “Thought you would have used your own lamb!”

And a fifth added: “Oh come on! There is no way you buy your lamb from Morrisons! My husband is a farmer and we eat our own lamb. Money talks I suppose.”

Luckily for Amanda, the positive comments outweighed the negative, with many of her followers defending her from the backlash.

Meanwhile, others shared their favourite ways of preparing the traditional meal, posting their tips and tricks in the comment section.

The delicious-looking meal may well be one of the family’s last at Ravenseat, as Amanda has confirmed that they will be moving to a new place soon.

Luckily, they’re only going a mile or so down the road to Anty Johns in Upper Swaledale, though they’ve bought the new farmhouse rather than rent it as they do with Ravenseat.

She told The Home Page: “You feel very temporary, like we’re just part of the bigger story before it’s passed on to someone else.

“Each of the buildings on the farm are named after people who are long gone, but whose memory lives on and it’s important to keep the heritage of the place going.”

Meanwhile, husband Clive said that their new home will be a “project” for them to work on.
