Morse prequel Endeavour's lead actor once dated a member of The Corrs

Series six of ITV’s detective drama Endeavour is currently thrilling viewers, with Shaun Evans making the role of a young Inspector Morse his own.

Shaun, 41, is best known for playing the younger version of the detective originally played by the late John Thaw, and has been in the role since 2012.

Born in Liverpool, he trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and his early TV roles included appearances in Channel 4’s Teachers and The Virgin Queen.

Endeavour may have made him a household name, but Shaun was already no stranger to crime drama, having popped up in shows including Murder City, Ashes to Ashes and Gently’s Last Stand.

What may surprise some fans is that the notoriously private actor was once in a relationship with Andrea Corr, lead singer of the hugely successful Irish band The Corrs.

Shaun and Andrea met on the set of Irish comedy drama The Great Ceili War in 2003. Andrea had a starring role in the film and the pair soon started seeing each other, before splitting up in 2007.

Shaun doesn’t discuss his love life publicly and it’s not known if he is currently married or in a relationship.

He recently told Ox in a Box, “[Endeavour has] little impact on my life which I like because I’m not a person who has a public persona, or a profile on social media. I just like to do my job and then go home and carry on with my life.”

Andrea Corr, now 46, was the face of The Corrs alongside her three siblings. The folk/pop group had huge chart success in the late 90s with hits including Dreams, Runaway and Breathless.

Although Shaun hasn’t spoken publicly about Andrea since they split, before they dated he called her “not just stunning, but really talented as well,” while she described him as “absolutely gorgeous,” according to the Belfast Telegraph.

Andrea remains philosophical about her time with the actor, telling the Irish Independent in 2007: “I don’t look back and think, ‘Oh God, I wasted four years.’

Endeavour is on ITV at 8.30pm on Friday.
