The Chase star Mark ‘The Beast’ Labbett shows off weight loss transformation

His stature helped make him a formidable opponent on The Chase for years, but Mark Labbett has undergone a huge change lately.

The popular quiz legend, 55, has delighted fans with recent social media posts highlighting his dramatic weight loss.

On July 6, Mark tweeted a smiling picture of himself with the cheeky caption: “Getting old, going grey. I blame Bradley Walsh 🙂 #thechase.”

But it was the quiz legend’s new look which wowed his fans, with one asking: “How much weight have you lost big man, or should I say not so big man?”

Another admirer swooned: “Didn’t recognise you. Looking good.”

On July 9 Mark tweeted from a Toby Carvery in Barnsley. His dining companion was Leeds United TV presenter Emma Louise Jones. The two friends were all smiles, but it was Mark’s slimline frame which caught fans’ attention.

Former Quizmania host Greg Scott joked: “Skinny and gorgeous! And Emma’s not bad either.”

Meanwhile, one fan compared Mark to an 80s pop heartthrob, gushing: “Kinda resembling Morten Harket in this pic! Great job on the weightloss!’

And one admirer pointed out that the former heavyweight’s The Chase nickname no longer worked, saying: “You ain’t The Beast no more!”

Mark Labbett showed off his dramatic new look

Mark has every reason to be proud and soak up the attention. In April he revealed that he’d lost 10 stone after cutting down on sugar and carbs. The 6ft 6in star appeared on Loose Women, where he discussed his weight loss journey with panellists Linda Robson, Stacey Solomon and Kaye Adams.

Like many people, lockdown had an unexpected impact on Mark’s habits. But as well as changing his diet, the single dad of one has been kept on his toes by his young son.

He told the Loose Women: “The principle thing is running around after a hyperactive toddler when nurseries have been shut. How do you keep up with them? I found at the end of the evening instead of going to the fridge for late night snacking, all I could do was collapse on the bed.”

The Chase is on ITV at 5pm weekdays.
