Bradley Walsh set to have eye surgery over illness that causes swelling

The Chase host Bradley Walsh has revealed that he will need to have his eyes operated on due to suffering “seriously bad” from a disorder called blepharitis that causes eye swelling and redness.

Addressing his health on This Morning, the 61-year-old presenter opened up by telling fans about his ongoing struggles with the condition.

Bradley said: “I have to take one pill a day for it or I really struggle. I am going to need my eyes operated on at some point to sort it out”

The presenter is widely adored by fans of the ITV trivia show but expressed that viewers aren’t aware of his ongoing battle with the condition that makes him look different sometimes.

Bradley explained that due to the side effects of the medical condition, viewers of the programme often notice that his face looks puffy on air.

He added: “People don’t realise I have seriously bad blepharitis.

“So many times, people have commented on how I look. But they don’t realise.

“If I take medication though, I’m fine.”

Prior to this, Bradley previously opened up about his condition on This Morning in 2017 to hosts Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes.

He told the couple that blepharitis causes red, swollen, itchy eyelids and flakes or crusts at the base of the eyelashes.

In extreme cases, sufferers of the condition can worryingly wake up with their eyelids completely stuck together.

While blepharitis isn’t life-threatening, it can often lead to dry eyes, cysts and conjunctivitis – though it can normally be treated by washing your eyelids every day.

Bradley has also suffered from another health scare that led to him losing 10lbs.

Shortly after the star’s 60th birthday, Bradley shared the news that doctors had given him a serious warning and urged him to lose weight.

The former soap star told The Sun: “I was a time bomb. I was quite lucky in regards to the calcium test but my doctor said I produce too much cholesterol. It’s a silent killer.”

“I thought, ‘Oh crikey, I’m gonna be bang in trouble here if I don’t lose the weight and start dealing with this’.”

Following professional advice, Bradley, who weighed 14st 9lbs, lost just under one stone to help improve his health.
