Inbetweeners' Neil Sutherland star Blake Harrison swaps acting for cage fighting

Inbetweeners star Blake Harrison is swapping acting for a new career – in cage fighting.

But the funnyman, who plays Neil Sutherland in the hit E4 comedy which spawned two hit movies, will not be slugging it out with some of the world’s toughest stars.

Instead, he will be interviewing them for a new podcast series about the MMA.

The 6ft star will meet some of the sport’s biggest stars to get an insight into the world of UFC.

He said: “This has been a dream come true. I created this podcast solely so we could regularly chat MMA.

“It comes from a genuine love of sport. Interviewing the fighters feels like a huge honour.”

Blake, 35, used to be a professional wrestling fan before switching to mixed martial arts.

He got hooked on the sport because he was impressed by the fighters’ mental toughness.

The dad-of-two told MMA news website FightPost the podcast was brilliant “because he got to talk to these amazing people”.

He said: “I put fighters on a bit of a pedestal because of their mental toughness and the sacrifices that they make. The amount of time they have to spend in the lead up to a fight training for all the different disciplines they have to learn.

“Then you have the weight cuts. They are just horrendous. And then the fight itself – just stepping in there.

“It is a whole different mould of human being that does that job and that fascinates me.”

Inbetweeners became a cult classic when it aired on E4 in the late noughties

Blake is set to reunite with his Inbetweeners castmates Simon Bird, 36, James Buckley, 33, and Joe Thomas, 37, for a one-off event in Liverpool later this year.

It will be the first time that the four main actors will have appeared alongside each other for more than three years.

Taking to the stage in Comic Con, the actors will discuss all things Inbetweeners, from their backstage antics to the two movie spin-offs, which cemented their star status.
