Fern Britton has opened up about her agony after splitting from husband Phil Vickery after 20 years of marriage.
The TV legend spoke candidly about the “tough time” when she parted ways with the celebrity chef.
She described three years being hell where she also lost both her parents as well as a family pet.
Fern’s dad, Tony Britton, who starred in various TV and films, died aged 95 in 2019 and her 94-year-old mum Ruth also passed away that same year.
But after the agony, she says her and former husband Phil have come to terms with the split.
She told BBC’s Carol Kirkwood for Fane.co.uk: “It was a bit of a tough time but we are getting through. And it is all OK. There is life afterwards.”
Fern explained she has a couple of “very good girlfriends” in Cornwall who make her laugh and help her with odd jobs, even clearing her garage.
“There was an awful lot that had arrived from my old home and I could not face unpacking it all.
“They came and helped me and they brought boxes and big thick pens and labels.”
She added: “Then at the end of the day, one of the boxes had a label on, saying, ‘Sex toys to be sorted,’ rubbed out and, ‘Outdoor lights,’ put on it, just to make me laugh.”
The mum insists she’s not “looking for anybody else” and is happy with her cats and dog to keep her company.

The star, who is set to celebrate her 64th birthday this week, confessed to feeling lost.
“I just think, ‘Where has that gone?’ And I am not at a crossroads, but I am stepping into another big chapter of life whilst possibly the final chapter, so I am processing all of that as well as Covid and all the other changes that have been going on.
“Not in a down way, it is just like, ‘Oh I don’t know what is quite happening next’.”
Fern and Phil, who share 19-year-old daughter Winnie together, announced the split in January last year.
They had tied the knot in 2000 after meeting on This Morning when she hosted alongside pal Phillip Schofield.
At the time, she broke the news of her heartbreak on Twitter where she told fans that she and Phil “will always share a great friendship and our lovely children.”
Fern’s latest book Daughters of Cornwall is out now.
