Coronation Street bosses have cast a brand new love interest for fan favourite Fiz Brown – and you’re likely to recognise him.
Actor Jamie Kenna will be stepping onto the cobbles in the role of Phill, a kindly blow-in who takes a liking to the newly single Fiz (Jenny McAlpine).
Confirming the news, soon-to-be Corrie star Jamie took to Instagram to share a behind-the-scenes look at his time on the show, writing: “ANNOUNCEMENT!!!!
“I can finally….FINALLY tell you all my amazing news! As of 16th July I will be appearing regularly as Phil Whittaker in the national institution that is @coronationstreet.
“I can’t tell you how excited I am to be joining the cast. Especially the brilliant @jenniemcalpine & @alanhalsall.”

This isn’t the 47-year-old’s first stint on a British soap opera – EastEnders fans will remember him as Vince Franks, who played the dad of school bully Jez back in 2007.
His biggest role was in the footie classic Green Street, starring alongside Charlie Hunnam and Elijah Wood in the 2005 box office sensation.
Playing the character of Big Marc, Green Street paid homage to football hooliganism in the UK, showing an American student finding a place in a violent West Ham football firm.

Jamie has also appeared in shows like Not Going Out, Peaky Blinders and Doctors – adding Coronation Street to his colourful portfolio.
Upcoming scenes will see Phill take Fiz out for dinner at Speed Daal, the pair getting along like a house on fire as they chat over curries.
Fiz recently had her heart broken by Tyrone Dobbs, who left her for a younger woman, factory worker Alina Pop, who is now carrying his baby.
Their romantic meal is interrupted by Tyrone, who is shaken to see Fiz enjoying a date with someone new – bringing old feelings to the surface.

Tyrone manages to spoil Fiz and Phill’s second date, as he arrives in the Bistro with Alina in tow, glaring at the happy couple from across the restaurant.
At the end of the night, Phill proves a true gentleman and offers to pay Tyrone’s bill when his bank card is declined.
It looks like Phill – and actor Jamie Kenna – are here to stay!
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
