Jimmy Carr fears there is a “landmine” joke from his past that will resurface and destroy his career.
The comic reckons something that was once acceptable will be deemed sick or offensive in the “woke” world.
Jimmy worries the gag is already online and when it is found, snowflakes obsessed with cancel culture will be calling for his head.
The 48-year-old star said: “I think that I may be retired. It’s that lovely line, you know, the joke that ends my career.
“I’ve already told it. It’s on YouTube somewhere waiting, it’s like a landmine.
“We don’t know which one it is. We can’t take it down because we don’t know.”

He added: “At some point one of my jokes will become so unacceptable. At the moment it’s fine, but at some stage someone will look back and go, ‘He said what? It’s over’.”
The 8 Out Of 10 Cats host has faced a backlash over gags in the past.
Two years ago Jimmy was criticised by a charity for telling a joke about dwarfism during his stand-up tour.

He was reported to have said: “Is a dwarf an abortion that made it?”
Little People UK, co-founded by actor Warwick Davis, said it was “saddened” by Jimmy’s remarks.
The TV personality, who recently judged BBC’s I Can See Your Voice, has also been slammed for making fun of fat women, female genital mutilation, amputee servicemen and the murder of Reeva Steenkamp by sprinter Oscar Pistorius.
Jimmy is set to front a brand new primetime Channel 4 gameshow called I Literally Just Told You.
The description for the series reads: “It’s the only gameshow in history where the contestants are given every answer with the questions written, literally, as the show is happening. You just need to pay attention to everything that’s going on.
“With each correct answer adding more cash to their prize pot, can the competitors keep their focus and remember the things they’ve seen and heard just minutes before?
“In the dramatic finale, the remaining two contestants set each other questions. It’s a chaotic battle of wits.”
This is the latest format from creator Richard Bacon, who executive produces the series alongside Adam Hutchinson for Expectation.
It’s Bacon’s third format to go to series this year following This is MY House (BBC One) and The Hustler (ABC).
