Love Island's Jack Fowler tells stars not to blow the cash as 'fame won't last'

After being taken under the wing of Blue singer Simon Webbe himself, he also advises them to find a mentor to help them guard their finances.

Simon learned the hard way – after blowing his fortune, he had to file for bankruptcy in 2013.

He now manages Jack – who took part in the 2018 series of Love Island and was coupled up with both Laura Anderson and Laura Crane – and recently landed him a deal with Island Records, home of Bob Marley.

Jack says: “Simon – and my family – keep me grounded and make sure my money is put in the right place at the right time.

“A lot of people when they come off a TV show think the buzz is going to last forever – it doesn’t. You’re hot, then you’re not.

“It’s about enjoying the time that you have, utilising it and putting your money away for a rainy day.”

After releasing three solo albums, and taking part in Strictly and I’m A Celebrity, Simon, 45, has now set his sights on turning former personal trainer Jack into a dance superstar.

His debut single Foolish is a huge summer floor-filler, perfect for nightclubs that are reopening after lockdown.

After ex-Geordie Shore cast member Joel Corry, 32, earned a BRIT Award nomination this year and fellow Love Islander Wes Nelson, 23, scored a Top 5 single, Jack, also a budding DJ, hopes to be taken seriously.

He says: “When you come off a reality TV show, you’re put in a box.

“It put me here today, but I would like to separate myself from being an Islander to a musician.

“I’ve always enjoyed acting, singing, dance, football and PT.

“If I like something – and it comes naturally to me – whether I’ve been on a TV show or not, I’m still going to pursue it.”

The busy 25-year-old – who also locked lips with Georgia Steel during his stint in the villa – hasn’t watched any of the current series of the dating show

He admits: “It’s not practical right now to sit down and watch TV, even though I’d really love to with a cup of tea.”

But he has been keeping up with the football and was appalled by the racist trolling directed towards Marcus Rashford, 23, Bukayo Saka, 19, and Jadon Sancho, 21, after they missed their penalties in the Euros final against Italy this month.

It has emerged that Formula 1 champ Lewis Hamilton was also targeted by vile racist internet trolls after winning the British Grand Prix on Sunday.

Jack’s dad is black and was born on Saint Helena, a small island in the east of the South Atlantic Ocean, and his ancestors were slaves. Jack’s white mum is from east London and that’s where he grew up.

He says: “Racism leaves a massively bitter taste in my mouth – it’s disgusting.

“The same fans who were being racist to the boys would have been cheering them on if they’d scored the penalties.

“People saying those remarks and taking to social media should be taken to justice.

“You should need your ID and passport to open up a social media account.

“It’s got to a point now where you need accountability to your platform – prevention is better than the cure.

“Preventing people from having those views on black and mixed-race people comes from the roots – their upbringing, schooling, what they read and see online.

“It’s not a nice topic to talk about, but it’s got to be done.”

Opening up about difficult topics is something Jack feels passionately about, and he hopes that through music he can encourage other men to do the same.

The death of good friend Kevin Smith, who died in a swimming accident in Ibiza in April, has spurred him on to make the most of every opportunity.

Jack says: “It’s been very difficult, but Kevin heard some of my music and loved it, so it makes me feel as though I’m doing the right thing.

“He was someone who loved to party and was always in the crowd in Ibiza, and he worked in Zante.

“Men often bottle up their emotions and think that talking about how they feel is a weakness. It takes a lot of courage.”

Foolish includes the lyric: “Sorry for the things that I put you through.”

So what is Jack, who split from girlfriend Joanne Baban Morales, 27, last month after a year of dating, apologising for?

He says: “It’s a lyric I wrote because I feel at some point everyone’s made a mistake in a relationship.

“I want people of all ages, both men and women, to relate to it, and hopefully this song and being able to talk about the topic will stimulate more men to talk about how they are feeling.

“A lot of relationships broke down during lockdown, partly due to stress.

“With Joanne it just ended.

“I learned a lot about myself in that relationship and I think she did too, but it was one of those things and didn’t work out.”

At the moment Jack is married to his job, adding: “It’s all about the music right now – I’m not looking. But I did Celebs Go Dating before and would do it again.”

Foolish is out now via Island Records. Jack has collaborated with Isawitfirst on a range of menswear, available online now.
