Kate Garraway has urged the public to get the Covid vaccine and avoid the struggles that have consumed her family over the last 18 months.
Kate’s husband Derek has faced a well published battle with Covid but despite finally being home he is effectively not out of the woods yet.
In his darkest moments Derek was placed in an induced coma for several months in hospital and although he is free from Covid the effects still riddle his body.
Presenter Piers Morgan has just finished his own battle with Covid and claims he was infected at Wembley Stadium during the Euros final that he attended.
Double vaccinated Piers admits in his column from the Mail on Sunday that it was far from straightforward and at times very frightening.
In his day by day account of his Covid infection Piers recounts a phone call with former Good Morning Britain colleague Kate who called to check on how he was getting along.
According to Piers he told her that he “didn’t know how she did it” after hearing what she does for her husband each day.
She said: “What choice do I have? Derek is the love of my life.”
In the column the former GMB presenter applauded Kate’s “extraordinary stoicism” explaining that people “don’t know the half of it”.
Piers said: ‘I’ve been thinking about you guys so much in the past week. I’ve felt pretty awful with Covid but the vaccine may well have saved my life. Derek never had the chance to take one. That just seems so desperately unfair.”
“It is, but I just hope everyone who can take it, does. I wouldn’t wish what we’re going through on anyone,” she reportedly replied.
